Constantine “Con” Honish
January 22, 1935 ~ February 2, 2022
With heavy hearts, we, the family of Constantine “Con” Honish announce his peaceful passing at home on February 2, 2022.
Dad was born on January 22, 1935 in Goodsoil, Sask. to Anton and Josephine (Langhorst) Honish. Dad grew up on the farm along with his 11 siblings. He attended Teachers College in Saskatoon and completed his Standard Certificate for Teaching in 1960. Dad went on to complete his Bachelor of Arts and his Degree in Education.
His first teaching job was in a 2-room school near Pierceland, Sask.
Mom and Dad met in Goodsoil while Mom was nursing at the Goodsoil Hospital. Mom and her friend Pat Low had come to Canada from England to work as nurses and travel to see some of the world and thus she stayed.
They were married on August 17, 1959 in Goodsoil, Sask.
Mom and Dad settled first in Meadow Lake, Sask. They subsequently moved to Saskatoon so Dad could continue his education. From there they moved to the Duck Lake area where Dad taught at the Beardy’s School for 2 years.
They finally settled in Prince Albert where they raised their family. We have many fun memories of our family camping holidays that took us to so many interesting places across Canada and into the United States. In November, 1988 they fulfilled their dream and bought a cabin (or as Mom calls it “the cottage”) at Emma Lake. This was and still is the hub of many happy times for the entire family.
Dad was a teacher, a mentor and a friend to many. Dad was always around to help and support no matter what was needed by family, friends and neighbors. He coached numerous teams, was very involved in the fund raising for the current Crescent Heights Arena and loved to play his guitar, accordion and mouth organ to keep us and many others entertained.
Dad is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Mary (Pryer); daughters Melanie, Debbie (Kelvin) Winge, Ann (Ron) Courtney and son Tim (Katie) Honish; his beloved grandchildren Jennifer (Ryan) Stacey, Adriane (Arya) Alaie, Shayn Courtney, Tanner Courtney, Brett Honish, Meghan Honish and Emily Honish; precious great grandchildren Cruz and Nash, Blake and Ariel, Nathan and Brandi, Hensleigh and Bowie-Lynn; his brothers Clarence Honish, Joe (Delores) Honish, Josephine Treptow, Delores (George) Hofer, Gene Honish and Ken (Lydia) Honish and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Jill Pryer in England as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dad was predeceased by his parents Anton and Josephine (Langhorst) Honish and his in-laws Alfred and Grace Pryer; his brothers Art (Lena) Honish and Raymond Honish and sisters Pauline (Karl) Hennerbichler, Mildred (Joe) Strasser and Florence (Tony) Weiman, brother-in-law Paul Treptow and infant sisters Leona and Mary.
Dad you will forever be in our hearts and thoughts, our teacher, our guiding light. Life will be less without you.
A Private Family Funeral will be held at St. Joseph Parish Church on February 19, 2022. Interment will occur in the Spring; all will be welcome to attend.
In lieu of other tributes donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 26 – 1738 Quebec Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
