Art Gee
July 18, 1931 – December 16, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Art Sung Gee announce his passing at the age of 94 on December 16, 2025 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Art was born on July 18, 1931 in Canton, China. At the age of 20, Art came to Canada to seek his fortune and forever home. In 1956 his beautiful bride Mee came to Canada, pregnant with twins who would be born on a cold January night at the Holy Family Hospital. The family would eventually grow to 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Art told stories of his time in China and how it led him to seek a better life in Canada. He worked in restaurants in Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan; finally landing in Prince Albert where he and Mee worked together for over 40 years at the Lotus Café on Central, eventually becoming the sole owners. The food prepared by them is legendary in Prince Albert and people still talk about the Christmas parties they catered and Mee’s amazing Chinese style pickerel and her unforgettable tea cakes. Sadly, some devastating health news for Mee forced them into retirement in January in 1997.
Art worked hard his whole life to ensure his family would have everything they needed, including post secondary educations. Of all of his accomplishments in business and life, Art was most proud of his family:
His son Wesley (Cindy) their children Megan (Graham Beddome) and Matthew (Matt Palsich) and great grandchildren Olivia and Jack Beddome.
His daughter Leslie (the late Vern Vansteenburg) and their children Tammy (Julie Huard), Mandy (Dustin Honey) and great-grandchildren Danika Downey, Summer and Ethan Honey; Amy (Brad Granger) and great grandchildren Mia and Hudson Granger.
His daughter Alice (the late Ron Geib) and their children Ryan (Solange) and great grandchildren Josie, Kellen and Hollis: Derek (Katelyn) and great grandchildren Alexa, Micah and Gavin; Lindsay (Isaac Heron) and great grandchildren Jax, Jake and Zach.
His late daughter Wendy (John Verge) and their children Blayz (Sara) and great grandchildren Sadie-Joe and Hux; Lexi (Tanner Blondeau) and great-grandchild Scarlett.
His daughter Donna of Prince Albert.
Art was predeceased by his beloved wife Mee in 1997 and his daughter Wendy in 2017.
The family would like to share their appreciation to Dr. Mark Halyk and his staff who provided care and medical treatment to Dad for many years and to the team at the Herb Bassett Home with special thanks and hugs to Maureen, Kelly and Shannon.
As he wished, no service will be held. A private family interment will be held in the spring. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the charity of your choice.
