Mona Person

1935-2020

 

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Mona Person, mom, grandma, sister, sister in law, auntie, and friend.  Mona passed away peacefully at the age of 85, with Pamela, Grant, and Barry by her side at Whispering Pine Place, Canwood SK. 

Mona was born October 7, 1935, to Melvin and Elinor Meyers at Sturgeon River, SK.  Mona was the first of 4 children in the Meyers family.  She grew up in Ladder Valley and Big River.  During her younger years, she worked in Big River (Waite Fisheries) and in Spiritwood. 

Mona married Erland Person on July 5, 1961.  They had 2 children, Pamela (Rob) Oleynick and Grant Person (Shari Edwards).  She was blessed with one grandchild, Ryan Oleynick.  Mona was a special Auntie for all of her nieces and nephews. 

Mona worked hard on the farm and loved life to its fullest.  She loved to cook and always made sure no one left her house hungry.  To this day, Grant and Pamela still try to duplicate her homemade soup and roast beef.  She took those skills and worked with Neighbourhood Caterers for several years.  Mona was involved with many community organizations that included the Marchant Grove Ladies Aid and the Canwood 4H Club.  She was a very devoted member of the Canwood Royal Purple where she held many local and district positions.  She loved to watch sports, especially ball, curling, and hockey, and spend time with family and friends. 

Mona spent several years on the farm after her husband Erland passed away.  She tried town living by house sitting in the winter of 2011, then moved to Golden Acres in Canwood in 2012.  She moved to Whispering Pine Place in 2013.  

Mona is lovingly remembered by Her Children – Pamela (Rob) Oleynick, Grant Person (Shari Edwards), Grandson Ryan Oleynick; Special Nephew – Barry Person; Brother – Henry (Doreen) Meyers; Brothers-in-law – Donald Person and John Danberg;  Nieces and Nephews:  Dean Person (Risha Rushton), Sonja (Coby) Wilson, Bev (Dana) Dziurzynski, Holly Meyers (Norm Knot), Michelle Meyers, Lori (Chris) Hammel, Keith Danberg, Terry (Jill) Danberg, Glen (Brenda) Person, Karen (Lloyd) Fell, Monique Kapell, Shirley (Kurt) Klein, Harold Hanson, Myrna (Lloyd) Blackburn, Barbara (Brian) Kimberley, Carol (Kerry) Blatchford, Howard Person, Sonja (Gordon) Burton, Betty Person, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. 

Mona is predeceased by her:  Husband – Erland Person; Parents – Melvin and Elinor Meyers; Sisters – Colleen Danberg and Carol Person; parents-in-law – Petrus & Karin Person; Brothers-in-law and spouses – Svante (Anna) Person, Pete (Shirley) Person, Clarence (Alice) Person, Walter (Agnes) Person

Sisters-in-law and spouses- Anna (Ole) Hanson, Linnea (Art) Bloom; Nephew – Les Person
