Michael WOODWARD
June 1, 1945 – August 4 ,2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Mike announce his passing at the age of 72 with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer on August 4, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital, in Prince Albert SK. Mike was born on June 1, 1945 in Norfolk England to Ivy Mae Woodward. As a young child never knew his father since he had fallen victim to a plane accident, giving Mike’s life a very different direction, one of an orphanage in those days since times were difficult. That never stopped him from attaining a Math Degree and forms of education in England that most wouldn’t in those days, he attained a Grade 12, Journeyman Woodwork and was to serve in the War for his country. He served 18 months with the special forces M15 unit and was injured this injury causing him to require surgery. where Canada he was bound to move and settle. He travelled Canada and went far and wide and Prince Albert he settled where he made it home for 40 years. Mike had a passion for motorcycles that brought him to race motorcycles at the Isle of Man in the TT circuit and raced in Canada. He met and courted Faye at Eaton’s, he would have coffee and lunch with her at the counter, meeting her at the Coop counter. She took his heart and on May 31, 1985, they wed and a union of marriage was made. Mike was always busy, he worked for the City of Prince Albert as a mechanic and later drove trucks and sanders. After hours, he was found coaching soccer in his earlier years and with his discipline and methodical thinking he brought those soccer teams to win grand titles. Mike was a boxer in the special forces and later in years like all of us our body doesn’t keep up but the love for the sport was always there for him. His love for gardening was well known. He had a green thumb most of us would be envious of, his Rose Garden was something many people would come and look at, he just had a way with tending to that garden and those flowers and loved spending time in the summer, the tranquility and how successful he was with the beautiful outcome you could tell brought warmth to his heart. If he wanted to get away, we know how Mike loved his Motorbikes, his Honda, and if anyone had a problem or needed a little something fixed, who’s your guy, Mike, he just had a natural talent for all those sorts of things. The biggest thing that brought a smile to his face were his two little gems his grand-daughters Anna and Clara, right till his very last day, those were the two that he recognized and made conversation with.
Mike will be forever remembered by his wife Faye (nee Switenky), son Philip (Laura Gregoryk) and grand daughters Anna and Clara Woodward, Sister-in-laws Karen (George) Nicholi and their children Garrett, Edward, Daniel, Tori Nicolai; Coleen (Greg) Christianson and their daughter Nicole as well as numerous other family and friends. Mike is predeceased by his mother Ivy Woodward and his father and mother-in-law Joe and Muriel Switenky. FUNERAL SERVICE for Mike will be held on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Grays Funeral Chapel at 575 – 28 Street West, with Gordon Jensen officiating.
