With great sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Anthony Heffernan on Monday, January 1, 2024, after a brief stay in the Regina General Hospital.
Michael was born on May 17, 1945, in Birch Hills, SK. He was raised on the family farm with his ten siblings. He attended Birch Hills High School and graduated in 1963. He soon met his future wife Dolly in 1964 on a blind date. The two married on June 11, 1966 and had three sons and a daughter. He went on to study accounting at the University of Saskatchewan obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with Distinction. He furthered his education by obtaining a Chartered Accountant Designation while articling at Clarkson Gordon accounting firm. He moved his family to Regina to work at the Office of the Provincial Auditor and soon after was appointed to the position of Deputy Provincial Auditor for the Health Division which he retired from in 2012.
Michael really enjoyed exercising and swimming at the YMCA for forty years. He also served on the Knights of Columbus and was the Treasurer of Holy Child Parish for several years. Michael enjoyed travelling, reading and spending time with his family. He was shy but very humorous, always making people laugh. At weddings and family functions you would always find Michael dancing with his wife, sisters, and nieces. He was a good provider, devoted husband, father and grandfather and he always went out of his way to spend time with his family and his young grandchildren. Michael was very kind and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Helen Heffernan and his brother Jack Heffernan. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dolly; sons Shawn, Kelly (Lenna) and Chris (Alisa); daughter Tara (Cory); grandchildren Kelsi (Michael), Hannah, Owen, Joshua, Ava, Hallie, Dominic and Lilia; great grandchildren Elijah, Jonah and Jordyn; siblings Howard (Diane), Mary Ann (Curtis), Pat (Irene), Linda (Archie), Paul (Julie), Bob, Helen (Daryl), Harry and Jerry (Brita) and many nephews, nieces and friends.
