Michael Andrew Tarasiuk
January 2, 1929 – October 31, 2010
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Michael, after a lengthy illness. Dad's family immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine in 1928 and he was born January 2, 1929 in Foxford, SK. He and his family endured many hardships trying to build a better life for all of us. Dad met our mom, Emma Nykiforuk of Steep Creek, SK, and they were married October 24, 1953. This union was blessed with four children Cindy, Lyle, John and Mary. Mom and Dad instilled a deep love and respect in us for farming, gardening and God's great outdoors and they taught us about the true meaning of generosity. Dad worked for the Canadian National Railway as an engineer which he retired from after 38 years. His many hobbies included gardening, bee keeping, farming, fishing, trapping and hunting. He was an avid reader and a man ahead of his time when it came to natural health, healing and the importance of being active. Dad ensured we were able to participate in many activities such as hockey, swimming lessons, cubs, scouts, hunter safety, dance classes, judo, music lessons and good old fashioned exercise.Dad is survived by his four children and their spouses, Cindy (Bob) Dryka, Lyle (Louise) Tarasiuk, John (Brenda) Tarasiuk and Mary (Lonnie) Vermette. His 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Michael (Tambra), Corrine (Malcolm), April (Eric), Erin (Chris), Justin (Dominique), Ryan (Nicole), Sara (Andrew), Ashley (Trent), Amy (Ian), and Chad. His 14 great grandchildren Emma, Hayleigh, Carson, Caleb, Gavin, Keeley-Rae, Gracie, Hannah, Jayla, Thomas, Garrett, Jared, Charley, and Jessie. His sisters Elsie Curnisky, Jean Schimnosky, brother Jim Tarasiuk, their families and mom's family. He was predeceased by our beloved mom Emma in 2001, his parents John and Anastasia, his 2 sisters Lucy and Mary, and many other relatives and friends. Our family would like to thank the very special angels at Mont St. Joseph's for the wonderful care they provided Dad over the last 5 & 1/2 years. In lieu of other tributes, the family asks that you take time in your day to help others and/or make donations to the Country Gardens Eden Team at Mont St. Josephs. A private family service will be held with interment at Steep Creek cemetery. Pastor Bill Hall of Church Bridge Community Church in Saskatoon officiating. Arrangements in care of Gray's Funeral Home, Drew Gray, Funeral Director.
