It is with great sadness that the Brown family announces the passing of their beloved father Mervyn Russel Brown. Mervyn was born on February 25, 1952 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan; he was the second son of George and Irene (nee Bird) Brown. He spent much of his youth playing hockey and baseball, both which he excelled at. Mervyn was known for his hockey skills; having enjoyed playing for both the P.A. Knights and the inaugural Prince Albert Raiders. He was married to AnnaLou Merkowsky in 1973 and soon he would have a house full of five children. As a husband and father, Merv worked hard to support his family and ensured that they never went without. He worked as a truck driver for STC, Kindersley Transport, and other area businesses; he spent the majority of his career working at the Prince Albert Pulp and Paper Mill as a bleach and chem plant operator. When the Mill closed Merv went back to doing what he knew – truck driving. Beyond work and family Merv also spent a lot of time working in and around the community but closest to his heart was Parkland Community Club. Merv was featured more than once in the newspaper for his impressive ice making skills and dedication to ensuring the children of the west flat had a surface to skate on.
As a father and grandfather, dad enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He could often be found down by the river walking with one or all of his grandchildren. Dad loved and cherished the opportunities he had to spend with them; from baseball games to Roughrider games, hockey, dance recitals, video games or just drinking coffee he always ensured to treasure the time he had with them.
Dad is now in the loving embrace of mom who went to heaven prior to his own departure. He leaves behind his children and grandchildren: Matthew and Marjory Brown and their daughters Mya and Mackenzie; Daniel Brown and Laurie Thompson and his children Coleton and Kennedy, Amanda and Donald Bissky and their three sons Justin, Bode, and Carson; Jennifer Brown; Kimberly and Jerry Ferchuk and their children Dawson, Owen and Olivia. He is also survived by his siblings: Wendell and Sarah Brown, Gloria and Greg Sayer, Rodney Brown and Shelley Moyle, and his sister-in-law Marlene Brown. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years AnnaLou, his parents George and Irene Brown, his eldest brother Verle, nephew Bradley, his mother and father-in-law Cecil and Joseph Merkowsky as well various aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Doctors who provided excellent comfort, compassion and care to our dad, especially Drs. Obrigavitch, Ekpenike, M and S. Veith, and Gallins; as well to the Doctors and staff at the Cancer Clinic in Saskatoon; and the fifth floor palliative care team at the Victoria Union Hospital. A come and go visitation will be held Wednesday May 2, 2018 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Beau “Lac” Funeral Home in Prince Albert. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday May 3, 2018 at St. Albans Anglican Cathedral 1410 Bishop McLean Cres in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
