Melvyn “Mel” Joseph McDonnell
February 11, 1939 – October 11, 2013
Mel passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Friday, October 11, 2013 at the age of 74. He was born on February 11, 1939 in Fort William, ON to Casey and Edith McDonnell. Mel is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Bernice; his daughters Diane (Stan) and Susan (Mark); his grandchildren and great grandchildren Charlie (Twyla) Bailey & Lucas; Matthew (Christine) & Jacob; Graham (Jenni) Tanner, Ryan & Jeremy; Janell (Roger); Nicole (Daniel) & Levi; Lisa; his brothers Ray, Bob (Lynn), Dick, Terry (Marion) and Gerald (Margaret); his sister Barb (Glen); as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son Michael; his parents Casey and Edith McDonnell and his brother Hugh. Mel attended school in Moose Jaw, SK. He was employed at Robin Hood in Moose Jaw, SK and then with Sask. Power in Saskatoon for 34 years. Mel enjoyed spending time at the family cabin for family get-togethers. He also enjoyed many trips with his wife, especially a 3 month trip touring New Zealand to celebrate their 50 years of marriage. Mel met many friends along his life’s journey. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Prince Albert Alliance Church, 2777 – 6th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Mark Bergen officiating. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
