May Joyce Olson
(May 1, 1926 – November 5, 2011)
It is with the deepest sorrow that May’s family announces her passing at the age of 85 on Saturday, November 5th at Extendicare Nursing Home.
May was born in England on May 1st, 1926, and came to Canada at the age of 20, the young bride of a Canadian soldier. After raising five children in Prince Albert and Yorkton, she returned to school graduating from the nursing program at SIAST in 1972. She spent many years nursing in post partum at St. Paul’s hospital loving every minute she had with new mothers and their babies until her retirement in 1990. She was a long time member of the Royal Purple and the ACT organizations of Saskatoon.
She was predeceased by parents, George and Kate Cooper of England; her first husband Roderick Umpherville; sons, Jerry, Keith and daughter, Karen; second husband, Ellis Mogg; and son-in-law, Mel Ohochinsky. She is survived by her third husband, Al Olson; daughter, Jean (Wayne) Meikle, Saskatoon; daughters-in-law, Donna Umpherville, Prince Albert, Colleen Umpherville, Broadview; son, Kim (Bernice) Umpherville, Saskatoon; her sister, Marion Waller of England; grandchildren, Wayne (Brenda) Meikle, Neil (Lisa) Meikle, Kelly (Jason) Beherns, Ron Umpherville, Rich (Cei-Cei) Umpherville, Les Ohochinsky, Michael Ohochinsky, Jessica (Richie) Bleau, Carey (Chris) Umpherville, Allan (Ashley) Umpherville, Chris Umpherville, Katie (Jason) Umpherville, Dustin Umpherville, eight great grandchildren; Al’s daughters, Christine (Isaak) Reddekopp, Debbie Stewart and their extended families.
The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10th at St. James Anglican Church (607 Dufferin Ave) with Rev. Dianne Mesh officiating.
The family is grateful for the kind and loving care given their mother during the past 6 months at Extendicare/Preston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Extendicare/Preston, 225 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7J 2E7. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
