Mary Petruniak (Nemish)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mary Petruniak, at the Pineview Terrace Care Home on Tuesday, January 2, 2013 at the age of 91. Mom was born in the Ukraine on July 3, 1921 and came to Canada in 1927 at the age of 6 and settled on a farm in the Krydor District with her parents. In 1937, 10 years later after Dad’s courting, she got married at age 16 to Dick Petruniak and they farmed in Krydor until their move to Prince Albert in 1948. Mom worked for many years as a waitress, desk clerk and store sales clerk until age 60. In the earlier years, she did a lot of crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was a great cook, devoted wife and very loving to her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Dick in January 2000; her daughter Elizabeth in 1951 and her parents Wasyl and Helen Nemish. We are sad about the loss, but are comforted by the fact that she is at peace now and joining her beloved husband and daughter. Left to mourn are her two sons, Fred Petruniak and his children Miles, Tony, Tom, Sonny and Lee-Ann; Morris (Darnella) Petruniak and her daughter Helen (Alex) Campbell and their children Lisa, Patrick and Lorilee. Also surviving are her siblings George Nemish, John Nemish and Ann Boyce and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at St. Georges Ukrainian Catholic Church, 770 – 14th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with celebrant Reverend Father Ivan Nahachewsky. Interment will be held at South Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
