Mary May Wykes May 1, 1928 – October 18, 2014 The family of Mary Wykes wish to announce her passing on October 18, 2014 in Melfort, SK at the age of 86 years, after a lengthy illness. Mary was born on May 1, 1928 in La Ronge, SK and moved to Prince Albert at a young age to work. She met her husband Jack and they married and raised their children: Richard, Gordon, Cliff, Harry and David on a small acreage on Miller’s Hill. It was during this period of time Mary enjoyed her gardening and was a foster mother to many.
Mary was a wonderful mother and cook, and anyone who knew her loved her baking. She cooked at the airport for a few years and was known for her biscuits and cinnamon buns. Her favourite pastime was knitting and looking after her plants which included her African violets, she could grow those like weeds. Mary was involved with her church and her faith helped to make her the strong woman she was as she endured her losses over the next few years. Mary was the most caring person, she put everyone else before herself even in times of grief. We will truly miss her. Mary is lovingly remembered by her sons: Cliff (Barb), David (Karen), and Harry (Joan); her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1976, her sons: Richard in 1976 and Gordon in 1993, her grandson Brent in 2009, her parents: Albert & Angelique VanderKracht, Her sisters: Margaret, Lillian, Laura and Anna; and her brother Bill.
