Mary Marko

Mary Marko, of Crystal Springs, SK, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2013. Born November 30, 1920 in Tway, SK, she was the daughter of the late William and Ahaphia Kowalchuk, of Tway, SK. Mary was known for her dedication as wife, mother, homemaker, gifted baker, seamstress, and teacher, and enjoyed her crafts, needlework, and quilting and grew many fine vegetable, fruit and flower gardens. As a child, she enjoyed learning the art of baking and sewing with her mother and grandmother. Music also was a part of her life as she and many of her neighboring friends and relatives sang and played together. As a mother, she made sure her children were dressed properly for school, and prepared many home-cooked meals. She enjoyed berry picking outings with family, as she loved the outdoors and spent many hours working in the garden, by the horses, cattle and other livestock. Mary kept in touch with her children and family by phone and very much enjoyed going out for visits and dinner. She struck up conversation with just about anyone and loved to share a laugh and a smile. She found great enjoyment in visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, and loved to receive their photos, cards and letters. Mary is survived by her children: daughter Lisa Olga (Marko) Hebert of Enderby, BC, her son Clifford Marko and his wife Evelyn (Halischuk) of Crystal Springs, SK, her son Edward Marko and his wife Lorraine (Bouvier) of Lac La Biche, AB, her daughter Rosalin (Marko) Bessette and her husband Denis of St. Benedict, SK, her daughter Sonja Marko of Vancouver, BC, her son David Marko of Crystal Springs, SK, her son Nick Marko of Calgary, AB, her daughter Patricia Marko of Calgary, AB and her daughter Paula Marko also of Calgary, AB; her daughter-in-law Corinne Marko (Kurtenbach) of Regina, SK; her brother Paul Kowalchuk of Tway, SK, her sisters Nettie Lune of Yellow Creek, SK, Ann Andruchiw of Saskatoon, SK, Alice Picklyk of Calgary, AB, her brother Bill Kowalchuk of Edmonton, AB; her sister Olga Kowalchuk of Saskatoon, SK; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Marko; her son Roger Marko; her brothers John, Nick, Adam and Henry. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Bill Hall officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens with lunch to follow at Gray’s Funeral Chapel.
