In loving memory of Marvin Klenk, of Melfort, SK, who passed away May 28, 2015 at age 60. Marv was born November 17, 1954 to Lawrence and Margret Klenk (Irwin).
Marv was hard working, outgoing with a good sense of humor and an exceptional husband, father and grandfather. He loved joking with his grandchildren and seeing them grow up. He loved the outdoors and working in his garage on many projects. If he ran out of projects he would go out and find work to keep him busy. He took pride in all his jobs and tried to make the workplace fun. Marvin had many fishing and hunting adventures over the years. He loved going to Tobin Lake for the summers and off to hunting camp in the fall.
Marv was born and raised in Imperial, SK with his parents Lawrence and Margret and his siblings Lynda, Judy, Maureen, David, Donna and Bruce. Lawrence was a grain farmer and a mechanic, so Marv was quickly immersed into the same. At 15 years old Marv met Pat (Ken and Marguerite Freeman) and everything changed for him. He spent many hours skidooing to Simpson to see Pat. Marv and Pat both graduated high school and went off to university. Marv went into Vocational Agriculture and Pat went into Nursing. Marv went to Saskatoon and Pat went to Regina and they met up every weekend back at home. They married in August 1974 and settled in Imperial after Marvin’s convocation. Marv and Lawrence farmed together and ran L & M Shell. Marvin and Pat decided to start a family and soon Ken and Karen were born. Many good times were shared with family and friends during this time while living in Imperial.
Marvin and Pat moved to Melfort in 1980. Marv and Pat ran Marv’s Shell Bulk for five years then expanded into a new business venture with his brother David in 1985. They bought Dea’s Gas Town and renamed it DaMar (Dave and Marv). Marv and Dave built the new building in 1988. In 1991 Marv and Pat sold Marv’s Shell Bulk and then focused their energy on DaMar until 2001.
Karen provided Marv with his first of five grandsons. Bryden was born in 1998, next was Logan in 2002 and later step grandson Cole in 2001 while married to Chad (Nickeson). Ken married Adelle (Weber) in 2000 and added two more grandkids to the mix; Landon (2003) and Jordan (2006). Marv loved to watch the boys in their various activities such as hockey, soccer and football. Marvin also took them fishing and hunting many times as they were growing up. Marvin enjoyed his time up at Tobin Lake in many mini fishing tournaments with the grandchildren and all the little lake buddies that looked up to Marv as a grandpa. Marvin and the grandkids participated in two fishing tournaments, the family even won one of these tournaments!
Marvin loved life. His favorite quote was ‘it is not about living, it is how you live’.
He was predeceased by Marguerite Freeman and Margret Klenk.
