Martha Marie Laxdal, 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2021 surrounded by family after a long battle with scleroderma. Martha was born on November 13, 1954 to Michael and Sophia Zborowsky in Tuffnell, SK. After graduating from the Foam Lake high school, she worked at the Foam Lake Royal Bank before marrying Tom Laxdal in July 1975. They went on to have three daughters—Erin (Joe) Tysowski, Leah (Bryan Augé) Laxdal and Marni (Randy) Gossner—and six grandchildren: Anna and Evie Tysowski; Joah and Marin Augé; and Lilou and Josie Gossner. With Tom being a conservation officer, Martha and Tom were fortunate to have lived in many beautiful provincial parks and communities—Fort Qu’Appellle, La Ronge, Kinoosao, Pelican Narrows, Smeaton, Duck Mountain, Prince Albert and Emma Lake (respectively). Over the years, Martha worked in retail sales, administration support for Century 21 and she volunteered with Prince Albert’s Music Festival and Kamsack’s Player’s Drama Club (helping with costumes and makeup). Around the home, she was often found gardening, working on a puzzle, playing a board game and making elaborate homemade cakes, cards and costumes for her family. Aside from her grandchildren, Martha’s next love was music. She regularly had her stereo blasting with her favourite artists: Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. She loved traveling to hot, sunny beaches and taking in movies whenever she could; the Academy Awards’ night was her favourite of the year. Martha will be remembered for her strong faith in the Ukrainian Catholic and Lutheran denominations, and her compassion for animals—she dearly loved her house pets and the wild animals that used to visit their yard. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Martha’s name to the Scleroderma Association of Saskatchewan or the Sask SPCA. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be announced at a later date. Arrangements in care of Mourning Glory Funeral.
