Marlene was born in Prince Albert and lived her early years in Henribourg and the Honeymoon area, with the exception of grade 1, when she lived with her grandparents in Prince Albert to attend school. Her young years in Henribourg were filled with fun with friends, playing ball, sports days and travelling to nearby towns to curl in the winter. Amidst the fun was also farm work including stooking sheaves and helping with the farm animals, leading to her love of sports and animals.
Marlene also loved going to dances around the countryside. At one of those dances in Christopher Lake in the fall of 1960, she met the love of her life, Larry. They were married in June of 1962 and lived in Prince Albert, then Henribourg and finally back to Prince Albert. They welcomed their daughters, Karen in December of 1964, and Sheila in November of 1965. In 1973 they built their dream home and yard on an acreage of bare land south of Prince Albert. Marlene and Larry created a beautiful place and life for their family of four.
Marlene, with her business school training, began working in banking, having positions with Burns and Molsons, and later with the Provincial Government in DNS and then Sask Housing. Marlene and Larry had the opportunity to travel near and far which included camping when the girls were young, driving out to the west coast, and spending a Christmas at Disneyland. These holidays were spent with the Booker family, as they remained close and saw each other often. Later, the two of them went to Hawaii with good friends, Europe, across Canada including Newfoundland, Mexico and bus trips to the U.S. Marlene and Larry joined the Seniors Club in PA and rarely missed a Monday afternoon dance. In December of 2021, it was time to downsize the yard work and after 48 years on the acreage, they moved into the city. Marlene continued to enjoy both new and old friends, playing games and spending time with her family and grandpuppies until the very end.
Marlene will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry; her daughters, Karen and Sheila; her sisters, Sylvia (Doug) Green and Paulette Booker; her special nieces and nephews, Pam and Dovona, Trent and Debbie, Andrew and Rachel, Jonathon, and Kate; her grandpuppies; as well as numerous special family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary Zbaraschuk; and her brother-in-law, Terry Booker.
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Calvary United Church, 114 25 Street East, Prince Albert.
