Marlene Parenteau (nee Nicolas) passed away peacefully on July 29, 2015 with her loving family at her side. She was born to Archie and Lillian Nicolas in Duck Luck, SK on June 26, 1942. She spent her younger years on the family farm with her brothers and sisters until moving to Saskatoon to complete her education at Nutana Collegiate. After completing her education she moved to Prince Albert, SK where she raised her three sons Perry, Murray and Doyle, then she began her long career with the Government of Saskatchewan. Her career in the public service spanned three decades and began with a post in Public Health and ended with a long held post in the Lands Branch. Marlene was a determined woman with a strong work ethic and while retiring wasn’t appealing to her, she adjusted to her new lifestyle over time. In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking and visiting with family and friends to pass the time. We will all miss those visits and the many wonderful dishes that she would prepare like nobody else could at family meals and during the holidays. Marlene is survived by her three sons and their families: Perry (Wendy) Vermette and their children, Matthew (Sam), Colby (Derrick), Kyle (Jennifer) and grandchild Kiara; Murray (Tamara) Vermette and their children Nicole (Dallas) and grandchild Taya and Justin (Ryley); and Doyle (Sandra) Vermette and their children Rebecca (Ben McCloy) and grandchildren Kelsy, Kylie and Seth, Dustin and grandchildren Austin, Kristin and Jayden & the children’s mother Georgina Sanderson; Sheldon and grandchildren Keisha, Mayson and Sydney; Donna (Tom) Carlson and their children Brandon and Cassidy, Deanna (Graham) Craig and their children Cody and Kyla; her brothers and sisters: Diane (Dwayne) Stiegen, Neil (Carol) Nicolas, Ross (Marlene) Nicolas, Roy Nicolas, Omer (Vicki) Nicolas, Myrna (Bill) Ruznisky, Mark Nicolas, Reg (Deb) Nicolas, Lee Nicolas, Shelley (Alan) Nunn, and Brad (Janice) Nicolas; special nieces Lisa Stiegen and Joan Nicolas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents: Lillian and Archie Nicolas; her brother Wayne Nicolas and nephew Todd Stiegen. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Father Michael Fahlman. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Pineview Terrace Lodge, 1200A – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4N9.
