Marit Jacobsen

1932-2023

 

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Marit Jacobsen passed away peacefully at the Victoria hospital on January 27^th, 2023 at the age of 90.

Marit was born in Spruce Home, Saskatchewan on June 12^th, 1932 to Olè & Johanna Jacobson. She attended Hanna school from 1938 – 1949. After completing high school, she took a business course in Prince Albert. There after she began working at Traders Financial Corporation as a cashier and secretary for 13 years.

In 1956 she traveled to Norway to meet her relatives. It was there she met Oystein, her future husband.  After returning to Canada they married December of 1958 and lived in the Prince Albert area until they settled at the Green Acres homestead in 1966. It was there they raised their 3 children Myron, Lyle and Lorraine. She worked at Red Wing school for 19 years, retiring in 1997.

After retiring you could find her gardening, baking, knitting or visiting her 7 granddaughters in various cities around the country.

Marit is survived by her loving husband and companion of 64 years Oystein Jacobsen; her children Myron (Joan) and their daughters Brittany (Ryan), & Erika (Doug); Lyle (Lorie) and their daughters, Karena & Melisa (Colin); and Lorraine (Cory) and their daughters, Heather (Jesse), Amy & Jayme (Matthew). She is also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren Ivan, Lauren & Cheyenne; her sister Signe Mossman; and special friends Gail Lemoal & Darcie Nelson.

She was predeceased by her parents Olè & Johanna Jacobson; her sister Ruth Michell; and brothers-in-law Garvin Michell and Walter Mossman.

Our family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Level 5 at the Victoria Hospital and Parkland Ambulance.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Marit’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Canada, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor, Toronto, Ontario M4R 1K8.

It was Marit’s wishes to have a private family service.
