Marion Evelyn Miller (nee Sebelius) of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, 81 years of age, passed peacefully from our hands to God’s in February, 2022. Marion was born to Orvel and Phyllis Sebelius at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on August 11, 1940. Marion and her family moved to Snowden when she was 12 years old. She completed grade 12 at Smeaton, Saskatchewan. She met her future husband, Leonard, in Snowden, and they married on June 28, 1958.
In 1958, Mom and Dad purchased a grocery/gas store in Nipawin which they owned until 1971. At this time, they moved to the farm near Snowden, where they raised their six children.
Mom had a talent for numbers and math and could quickly calculate them in her head. She worked at the Credit Union in Choiceland for several years and helped Dad on the farm. Mom was known for her green thumb and spent many hours landscaping the home quarter of land they bought, as it was a blank slate when they moved onto it. Mom was usually found outside in the garden, cutting grass, or tending to her flower beds. Mom had a love of sewing, curling, watching figure skating on T.V., and spending time with her children and grandchildren. When mom lived on the farm, she regularly went to coffee with her coffee ladies.
Mom believed in investing in the community; she spent many years volunteering as the Secretary for the Snowden Community Club and volunteering for the United Church in Choiceland.
Mom always wanted to travel, and she did just that with her grandchildren. They travelled within Canada and The United States. Mom loved to travel to visit her children and grandchildren wherever they were residing. Mom and Dad made many great memories camping with grandchildren.
Travelling wasn’t mom’s only passion; she loved baking and cooking for her family and taught her children and grandchildren baking secrets. Sometimes this was a bit tricky, as she usually would say she “just add a shake or two or add flour ‘till the dough is the right consistency”, and often didn’t follow a recipe (never could get those buns right like yours, Mom). You could count on Mom to bring her pies and baked goods to the Snowden curling rink, sports days, and the church.
Mom was loved for her generosity, integrity, trusted friendships, sense of humor, quick wit, and her “way with words”, which helped to make a person feel better. Mom had a unique way of listening and knowing what to say to her grandchildren; she was their trusted confidant and a special Grandma to Mitchell, Brianna and Broden. Mom had all the time in the world for her grandchildren and strived to be the best grandparent ever.
Marion is preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and Orvel Sebelius, two children: Dwayne Miller (1982) and Doug Miller (2018), and four siblings: Lorraine, Garth, Brian, and Judy.
Marion is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leonard, and their children: Doreen (Gregg) of Saskatoon, Diane (Sid) of Prince Albert, Darryl of Choiceland, and Donna (Jim) of Choiceland. Grandchildren: Mitchell of Prince Albert, Brianna of Auburn, WA, and Broden of Rapid City, SD.
Mom leaves behind many special memories, and we will miss her deeply. Mom would tell people she had four kids and two angels. Now, Mom celebrates a reunion with her two angels: Dwayne and Doug. Her loved ones will strive to honor her memory by living their lives to the fullest, knowing that she loved each one of us dearly. Our spirits will visit… Until we meet again, Mom.
A private service will be held at a later date.
The family placed their trust in Rosemarie Forsberg and her staff at Heritage Funeral Home Ltd., Nipawin, SK.
