Marion Hazelwood-Yockey passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 94. Marion Hazelwood was born in Regina, SK, on May 10, 1920 to Albert and Eva Hazelwood who predeceased her in 1980 and 1936. She enjoyed growing up in the Lily Plain area where she, her brother John (deceased 2012) and sister Kathleen enjoyed many good times. Marion married Carlton Yockey in 1938 in Prince Albert and they shared many years together farming and enjoying their home located in the Lily Plain area. She loved her dogs and cats and spending time outdoors. Marion was predeceased by their daughter Viola who passed away at the age of four in a house fire, and her husband Carl who passed away December 17, 1982. After Carl’s passing, Marion resided on the farm until taking up residence in Prince Albert in 1999. In 2004, she was recognized with a volunteer award from the Canadian Red Cross. While living in Sherman Towers, she assisted another resident daily with personal care needs, and enjoyed her outings and visits with family and friends. She also spent many volunteer years at the Salvation Army, where in 2011 staff along with friends helped celebrate her 90th birthday. In January, 2014, Marion moved to Pineview Terrace Lodge where she enjoyed exceptional care. Some of the highlights were spending time with the cats at the Lodge, enjoying the many activities and various outings including going to a hockey game, winning at bowling and helping other residents as she was so known to do. Marion is survived by her sister Kathleen (Kay) Maalerud, and several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family guardians Ron and Marlene Klassen, and Bruce and Margaret Hazelwood who enjoyed their many visits with her. At Marion’s request, there will be no funeral service. A graveside ceremony for family will be held at a later date. Donations in Marion’s memory may be made to the SPCA, PO Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9, or to the Salvation Army, 163 12 Street East, Prince Albert SK S6V 8C1. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Memorial Chapel, Carla Jesso, Funeral Director.
