We are devastated and deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear mother, Marina Thorpe, nee Olnick, on April 19, 2015. Marina was born on May 4, 1950 at Porcupine Plain, Sask. She attended school in Chelan and Porcupine Plain. Following graduation, she pursued her passion to become a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career led her to the Children’s ward at the Victoria Hospital, PA Medical Clinic, Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), and the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region. Throughout Marina’s entire nursing career, her patients and co-workers loved her for her gentleness and compassion. In 1972, Marina married the love of her life, Ronald Thorpe. They were blessed with two children Lindy and Adam and later a grandson Kaleb. She is also survived by two brothers Larry (Cindy) of Sylvan Lake and Gerald (Grace) of Kelowna and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron; her infant daughter Amy and parents Bill and Matty Olnick. Marina was very active in the Prince Albert community always using her own personal touch to volunteer and to serve others. Her absence will be strongly felt by the Sharp Needles Embroiderer’s Guild, The Skarlett O’Hatters of the Red Hat Society, Beta Sigma Phi, University Women’s Club (CFUW) and the Friends of Prince Albert National Park to name a few. Marina was completely dedicated to her family and was “The Best Grammy Ever.” She enjoyed her leisure time in Waskesiu and generously hosted her friends and family there. Her wide circle of friends will miss her enthusiasm and thoughtfulness. Celebration of Marina’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Sherry Ouellette. Interment will be held at a later date. Charitable donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Salvation Army or Friends of Prince Albert National Park.
