GIBERSON- Marilyn Dow Murphy
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Friend on August 15, 2014. Born in Killarney, Manitoba on December 5, 1933, she grew up in Neville, Saskatchewan. At the age of 13, after the tragic loss of her father, she moved with her mom and brother to Emma Lake. There she fell in love with the Giberson family where she found a “fill in father” in Hughie. Two years later she fell for the blue eyed youngest brother in the family, but her mother insisted “education before boys”. After receiving her teaching certificate, Mom married the love of her lifetime, our Dad, Perlie, on December 29, 1955, one day later than planned due to a severe winter storm. Gerry made his appearance in 1957 and Dee in 1961. During this time Mom and Dad lived in many places and often not together due to work. They decided to set roots in Tweedsmuir area. Lana arrived in 1963 and our baby, Kim in 1965. Mom taught for thirty plus years in schools ranging from a one room school near Marcelin, to places like Duck Lake, Tweedsmuir, and finally Christopher Lake. Her last years were as wonderful as her first, as she stated she had the best co-workers of her career when she retired in 1989. Mom is survived by her son Gerry (Kamal), her daughters; Dee (Grant), Lana (Doug), and Kim (Randy), her six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brother, Wally (Marilyn), one aunt as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was predeceased too recently by her grandson Derrick, her beloved of forty eight years Perlie, and her parents Dolores and Frank Murphy. It is our hope that dancing is encouragement in Heaven as our parents loved this pastime. Please join us to share and celebrate her life. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2014. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Both services will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Christopher Lake, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father D.J. Vu. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens at 10:00 am on Wednesday August 20, 2014. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 – 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Christopher Lake or to a Charity of Donor’s Choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray's Funeral Chapel, Myriam Minier, Funeral Director (306-922-4729).
