Mariette Loraine Deault
(July 8, 1920 – November 26, 2011)
Mariette Deault passed away peacefully at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the age of 91 years, with her family at her side.
She is lovingly remembered by her three children son Claude Deault of Domremy, daughter Gisele Deault of Martensville and daughter Muriel (John) Lapshinoff of Saskatoon; her three grandchildren Kevin MacLaggan, Derek (Amanda) Riddell and Aaron Pelletier; three great-grandchildren, Kohl MacLaggan, Blake and Mackenzy Riddell. She is also survived by her sister Jeanine (Alfred) Phaneuf of Prince Albert and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Deault in 1998; her infant son Denis in 1945; her parents Arthur and Elise (Blais) Dupuis; her brothers Fernand, Gaston, Lorenzo and Jean Paul Dupuis; her sisters Rollande (Robert) Tournier and Simone (Isidore) Bernier.
Mariette was born on July 9, 1920 on the family farm in Batoche, SK on the northwest quarter of SEC. 27, TP 43, RGE 1, W3. She was the sixth child out of eight children born to Arthur and Elise Dupuis (nee Blais). Throughout her early years she lived with her family on farms in the Batoche, Bellevue and Hoey areas. She attended elementary school at L’école Argonne in the Hoey district as well as Stobart School while at the convent at Duck Lake.
Following her Grade 12 she moved to Prince Albert to complete a secretarial course at the Syllabic Business College. Subsequently she moved to Domremy where she lived in a small house with her sisters Rollande and Jeanine and was employed at the Bank of Montreal until her marriage to our father, Henry Deault, on July 25, 1944, whom she had met in March of 1942 while he was on leave from the armed services. Following her marriage, she lived in Domremy, where Henry and his father, Joseph Deault, owned and operated a blacksmith and welding shop.
After her children were grown up, she worked part-time at the Domremy Post Office for several years as well as continuing to assist Dad with bookkeeping for his blacksmith and welding business until 1990 when ill health forced him to retire. After Henry’s passing on September 2, 1998, she continued to live in her home in Domremy until the age of 86, at which time she moved to an apartment at Luther Heights in Saskatoon to be closer to her two daughters.
She continued to keep busy sewing, doing crafts and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed conversing on the telephone with friends and relatives, keeping abreast on what was happening in their lives. Our mother was an intelligent, kind and gentle lady. She loved animals and fed and sheltered many homeless/abandoned cats when she lived in Domremy.
She was an excellent seamstress and the hum of her sewing machine could be heard many times throughout the day. She was very creative and artistic – carpentry, quilting, knitting, scenic oil painting. She loved the outdoors, working in her yard, garden and flower beds. She always kept abreast of the local and national news. She enjoyed travelling with our father and brother in Canada and the USA, in particular to historical sites during the 70’s and 80’s.
The family expresses their gratefulness to the wonderful staff at Stensrud Lodge who cared for our mother during the past several weeks and during the final hours of her life. In lieu of flowers and to honor our Mother’s love and care of animals, donations may be made to your local S.P.C.A.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 30 from River Park Memorial Chapel – 301 River Street West, Prince Albert. Father Matthew Nguyen will officiate. Interment will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends may send email condolences to www.riverparkfuneral.ca. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Don Moriarty – Funeral Director.
We hold you tightly within our hearts And there you will remain. Life will go on without you But it will never be the same… Fais do do notre belle Maman Fais do do notre belle petite fille On va tous se revoir un jour…
