Marie Slonski

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother (Baba), great grandmother, aunt, sister and friend Marie Slonski (nee Prokopie) after a short courageous battle with cancer on December 12, 2015. Marie was born June 30, 1940 in Prince Albert, SK to her parents Mary and Frank Prokopie. Mom married Frank Slonski in 1957 where they settled on the farm in the Claytonville District. Shortly after moving to the farm they started a family. Raising four boys and taking care of her husband who was early diagnosed with MS. She worked hard on the farm growing a huge garden, raising chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, as well as several other farm animals. Mom moved to Prince Albert in the early 80’s where she worked at the Herb Bassett Nursing Home as a care aide. After retirement mom kept busy gardening, feeding her birds, baking, and making perogies and cabbage rolls. She is survived by her 3 sons, Larry and his children Nicole (Ben) and Lisa; Lloyd (Terri) and their children Tara (Sid), Whitney (Chris) and Cody; Gary (Wanda) and their children Amber (Myles) and Bailey (Kyle); as well as several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Slonski; son Clarence Slonski; parents Mary and Frank Prokopie; sisters Edith Starchuk, Olga Balan and brother Mike Prokopie. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Charity of Donor’s Choice.
