Marie Capustin passed away peacefully on January 30th, 2022, in Winnipeg, MB. Marie grew up on a farm near Foxford, SK, where she attended school for many years. Marie attended elementary and junior high in Foxford, SK, then attended high school in Prince Albert, SK. After graduating from high school, Marie completed a year of normal school and held various teaching positions while completing university classes during the summers. She also took time off to complete her diploma in Theology at Briercrest Bible College. In 1967, she married David Capustin and together they raised their son Mark on the farm. Marie continued her teaching on occasion as a substitute while working hard to maintain her large gardens and helping the farm run smoothly, as David also worked full-time off the farm. Friends and family enjoyed many large, wonderful meals that Marie lovingly prepared, and guests were always made to feel welcome in her home.
Anyone who knew Marie knew that she had a keen wit, and she always had a clever quip ready for any situation. Many of Mark’s friends enjoyed Marie’s sense of humor as much as she enjoyed their laughter. She retained that sense of humor even as her health failed and she brought many smiles to staff at Calvary Place Personal Care Home. Marie kept up an active social life for many years at Calvary Place, participating in many recreational activities, visiting with other residents, as well as serving on the residents’ council. Marie also had a firm, steadfast faith in God. She and David were faithful members of Crossroads Pentecostal Church for many years.
Marie leaves to mourn her son Mark (Dana Cole) Capustin and her grandchildren Caleb and Emma Capustin.
Marie was predeceased by her husband David, two infant daughters Valerie and Vivian, her parents Tom and Lena Silukoff, and her brother Ted.
A memorial service will be held at MacKenzie Chapel in Prince Albert, SK on Friday, February 11th, 2022, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Shane Acorn officiating. Donations in Marie’s honor can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.
