Maria Ramirez-Garcia
1929 – 2026
Maria Berzabe Ramirez was born to Francisco and Maria Reyes Ramirez in Viesca Coahuila, Mexico on August 13, 1929. She passed away at Rose Garden Hospice on February 27, 2026, in Prince Albert, SK.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Maria “Mayela” MacGregor and son-in-law, Wendell MacGregor; grandchildren Halvor, Christina, and Earl (Jennifer); great grandchildren Lyla, Jasper, Alex, Serenity, William, and Sebie; sister Socorro and her children: niece Maria Isabel Johnson and great niece Louisa Johnson; nephews Jesus Chuy Lopez and wife Susana and their family Francisco Lopez and wife Vita and their children; and many other nieces, nephews, and family members.
She was predeceased by her sister Rosalina Lopez and her husband Juan Lopez, brother Roman Ramirez and his wife Rebecca, sister Carmen, sister Lola Martinez and her husband Raul, brother Marcos Ramirez and his wife Herlinda, sister Hacinta who died in childhood, one little brother who died at birth, her spouse Alejandro Palacious, her parents Francisco and Maria Reyes, a grandson George Francisco at birth in 1982, and Harry Johnson (husband of Isabel Johnson).
Maria had a very long life that was not without its challenges. Her mother died after a difficult birth when she was six. Her fifteen-year-old sister Rosalina raised her along with her younger siblings after this tragic death.
Maria married her husband Alejandro in 1955. She had three unfortunate miscarriages, however, on November 11, 1958, she was finally able to have a healthy baby girl named Mayela. Her husband Alejandro died in 1965, so she went to live with her sister Rosalina and brother-in-law Juan. Maria felt that this home was a safe place to raise her daughter Mayela.
In 1972 she arranged for Mayela to move to Canada with her niece Isabel and her husband Harry Johnson. She felt that Canada could offer her daughter a sound education and better life options. She kept in regular contact with Mayela.
Maria continued to live happily with her sister Rosalina and brother-in-law Juan until the late 1990s when they became infirm. Maria then moved to Canada to live with her daughter Mayela and son-in-law Wendell. She got to finally spend quality time with her grandchildren Earl, Halvor, and Christina.
She lived in peace with Wendell and Mayela for many years enjoying leisure, some light house work, and family time. She enjoyed Mexican programs, Jalapeno potato chips, and chocolate.
Despite many life challenges, Maria never complained and tried to make the best out of her life. Maria had many comfortable years until 2022 when she lost her sight and then her hearing. She was able to walk around but then gradually lost her mobility. Despite her many challenges she would still graciously kiss your hand if you brought her lunch or a tasty treat.
She lived her last five days of life at the Rose Garden Hospice and passed away peacefully in her sleep. The family would like to extend their gratitude for the care Maria received during that time.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
