Margaret passed away peacefully in the hospital surrounded by family. Margaret was the much-loved mother of Wayne (Marci) Shillington, Dale (Marilyn) Shillington, & Wendy (Richard) Dyck; grandmother to Robin (Alysha) Shillington, Brett (Alyssa) Shillington, Pamela (Rob) Hart, Cory (Megan) Dyck, & Kelly Gramlich; great grandmother to Bryden, Kaysten, William, Alexander, Sarah (Thomas) McDuff, Jordan, Seth, Miller, Maeve, & Tucker; and great-great-grandmother to Aliya, Rielle, and Maisie. Along with her many friends, Margaret will be missed by her younger brother Bruce Heffernan and sister-in-law Margaret Heffernan, as well as the extended family of Heffernans and Shillingtons, many of the nieces and nephews having spent summer vacations with Auntie Margaret and Uncle Buster on the farm.
Margaret always said she enjoyed a long and happy life, filled with friends, family, hard work, fun, and the occasional periods of difficulty. Those 95 years were lived in Prince Albert, SK area. She grew up in Clouston where her parents operated the store, post office, and a small farm. After completing her education at MacIntosh School, Margaret stayed home to work for her parents in the store and post office. It was there that she met Buster Shillington who had recently purchased a nearby farm; they were married in June 1948. The farm was home until 2000 when Margaret and Buster fully retired to their new condo in Prince Albert, SK.
Friends, family, and volunteering were hallmarks of Margaret’s life, including volunteering with the MacDowell Lioness Club, the P.A. Exhibition Polka Fest, and other community events; attending monthly Christian Women’s meetings; dances at the MacIntosh Community Hall; hosting the production of the Clouston history book in her home; supporting her children’s involvement in 4-H and sports, and numerous late night card games with friends. Margaret was always connected to people and in her later years, much of that social activity was long phone conversations with friends and family.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Buster, her four siblings Bill, Doreen, Jack, & Danny; as well as many friends and neighbors she had known over the many years.
