Margaret “Peggy” McConechy
On March 12, 2011, Margaret Joanne “Peggy” McConechy (nee Pond) passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 70.
Peggy was born on November 14, 1940 in Prince Albert to Hazen “Ducky” and Marg Pond. She attended school in Prince Albert, where she established many good friendships through her participation in band and various sports. After her graduation from P.A.C.I. in 1959, she enrolled in the Nursing Program at the Saskatoon City Hospital in the Class of 62A, a group to which she was very close for her entire life.
Peggy married Wayne McConechy on June 26, 1965, living in Shellbrook and Kamsack before settling long term in Prince Albert. She worked at the Holy Family Hospital when her children, David and Suzanne were young, then went to work as a nurse at the Prince Albert Community Clinic when they were older, where she remained until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed her retirement, particularly her travels to Whitehorse to visit Suzanne and her family, visits to Kamloops to visit Wayne’s family and her many rounds of golf at Fairview Fairways. She was very active and long-time member of Calvary United Church and sang in the choir for many years. Peggy was an avid reader who loved reading mystery novels. She was a very outgoing person and was much loved by those who knew her through her work and through her personal life.
Peggy is survived by her husband Wayne; son David (Connie) McConechy & grandchildren Megan and Lukas of Prince Albert, SK; daughter Suzanne (Kevin) Greenshields & grandchildren Nathaniel and Aaron of Whitehorse, Yukon; sister Carol Beck; her brother John (Linda) Pond; brother-in-law Grant McConechy and sister-in-law Joan Brkovich; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
