Mom was born in Moxee City, Washington, U.S., she immigrated to Canada with her parents Leontine & Ernest (at the age of two) to settle in Debden, SK. She became a Canadian Citizen in her adult life.
Mom attended Normal School (Teacher’s College) in Saskatoon and started her career in Ormeaux School in 1949, then on to Winslow Lake School at Mattes. She met and married Dad, became a farmer’s wife and raised her family, while being a substitute teacher for a period then returned to full-time teaching in Debden where she retired after 25 years.
Mom was first and foremost – always and forever a School Teacher! Which continued right on to Samaritan Place where her care partners told us she would correct them and also attended their “staff meetings” (shift changes.) Meanwhile telling her family that she’s going to have to “let her job go as it was getting too hard!”
She was a very supportive and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. There were many doilies and tablecloths tatted; many trips taken with her sisters Marg and Jeanne and her friend Gloria; many laughs, card and yahtzee games with Lucille and Elsie and Yvette; many visits with neighbor and dear friend Eva; many discussions on teaching strategies with Anita; huge gardens planted and harvested; tons of bread loaves baked; and later in life loved to do jigsaw puzzles. Mom was always busy and never afraid to try new things.
We would like to thank all the staff at Samaritan Place for their compassionate care provided to Mom since 2020. Please know that it is greatly appreciated beyond words.
A farewell mass will be celebrated at 1 PM on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at St. Jean Baptiste Roman Catholic Church, Debden, Saskatchewan.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom’s memory will be gratefully accepted for The Debden Heritage Manor, Box 608, Debden, Saskatchewan S0J 0S0
