Manfred “Fred” Evald Soderlund
Fred passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 6th in Mont St. Joseph Home at the age of 88. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Irene; his four daughters Joanne (Jerry) Missler, Sharon (Denis) Shynkaruk, Barbara (Dale) Cuthbertson and Wendy (Pierre) Bourque; his 12 grandchildren Lynton (Kami), Ryan (Amanda), Riss, Chris (Tammy), Dana (Natalie), Michelle, Alley, Megan (Justin), Danielle (Conrad), Rene, Jonathan, Suzanna and his
9 great grandchildren Hayden, Jenaya, Dallan, Kelsey, Madison, Paige, Layne, Atticus and Everlea. His is also survived by two sisters-in-law Hilda and Evelyn and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his parents; two sisters; four brothers and was the last surviving Soderlund family member of his generation. He was born on June 2, 1923 near Gull Lake, SK. The family moved to the Weldon area when he was about two years old where he grew up and attended school. He enlisted in the infantry with the Regina Rifles during World War II and served overseas in Belgium and Holland and after the war in Germany. He returned to Prince Albert and worked many places including The Box Factory, P.A. Refinery, P.A. Manufacturing, I.W.A. Union and finally his own business Soderlund Construction and Swimming Pools. Fred was an active member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church for almost 60 years serving on the Board of Managers, the Presbyterian Men, and involved with the building of the elevator and other upgrades to the church. He dedicated over 50 years of service to Camp Christopher serving on the Camp Committee and volunteering his time building and repairing. The Camp was his passion. On moving to the country he joined the Buckland Volunteer Fire Department and served for over 30 years on the Board of Directors, was a firefighter, Deputy Fire Chief for 13 years and Fire Chief for 6 years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a long time season ticket fan of the P.A. Raiders. After his retirement he spent many enjoyable hours at his woodturning hobby. The family would like to thank the Herb Bassett Home and Mont St. Joseph Home for the compassionate care given during the past year. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 12th Street and 1st Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK with The Reverend Dr. R.M.A. Sandy Scott officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to Camp Christopher, RR 1, Site 7, Comp 20, Christopher Lake, SK S0J 0N0 or St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 60 – 12th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 1B2 or Charity of Donor's Choice.
