Lynda Mae Royal
1954 – 2025
Lynda was born on November 4th, 1954 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She was adopted by Frank and Evelyn Royal. After the passing of Evelyn, Frank remarried, and Lynda formed a strong bond with her stepmother Margret.
Lynda welcomed her first child, Derrick Shane on November 26th, 1978. She met Gerry Giberson, and shortly after they welcomed Gerard Frank on January 1st, 1981. She and Gerry were married in 1985. Even though it was kind of insanity, she had a blast when the boys got together with their half brothers, Harley and Devin, at their grandparents’ home in Tweedsmuir, SK.
Lynda moved out to British Columbia in 1997, where she worked in the palliative care field. While she was living there, her family had grown with the addition of her grandchildren, Dylan May (2009), Tiegan Amber (2010) and Jayce Gerard (2014). She made frequent trips back and forth for birthdays and such until the tragic passing of Derrick in 2014. That was when she made the decision to move back home to be close to her son and grand babies. Even though they were not sisters by blood, she had a special relationship with her sisters-in-law (Dee Dee, Lana, and Kim) – they really were like full on sisters.
Throughout the years, she wore many different hats, in many different fields. From driving cab, being a first responder, ambulance attendant, and her favourite job, the Lakeland Childcare. She wound up finishing her working career at the Full Circle in Northside, SK.
It was around this time that she had fallen ill due to cancer. For the next couple years she was on a bit of a roller coaster. She had beaten cancer once only for it to return. On May 21st, 2025, Lynda lost her battle. She passed at the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan with her son Gerard by her side.
She was predeceased by her parents Evelyn, Frank and Margret; her in-laws Wilber and Marilyn; her son Derrick; stepson Harley; the boys’ father Gerry; and brother-in-law Grant.
Lynda is survived by her son Gerard (Merissa); her grandchildren Dylan, Tiegan, and Jayce; step grandchildren (Harley’s) Lincoln and Luca; her stepson Devin, and his children, Mylan, Morgan, Darius and Melody and her step great grandchildren; her brother Rick; her sister Wendy; her sisters-in-law Dee Dee (her daughter Jessica), Lana (Doug) (their children Jada and Colton), and Kim (Randy).
Closer to the end, she kept cracking jokes about how we were to celebrate her life. One thing was certain, she really wanted to be celebrated with a good ol’ wiener roast. So, on July 19, 2025 we will be having “Lunch with Lynda” from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Kim’s place in Christopher Lake. Other than the hot dogs, there will also be burgers and salads. If you want to bring snacks, feel free, but not necessary. Please bring your lawn chairs and stories about Lynda.
