Louise Bertha Marie Viden – LaPlante was born on February 3, 1942, in Shellbrook SK. The oldest child of 10. She quit school after completing her Grade 8 and went to work for the Sask. Timber Board as a cook’s helper with her great aunt Jessie Olson. One spring she worked for Sundby’s with her aunty Stina. She worked summers in the Rex Café in Big River where she met Ted Viden. They were married in January 1961.
They lived in Dore Lake where they ran a mink ranch and did some commercial fishing on lakes in the area and raised their 4 daughters until 1973. They then moved to La Ronge where Ted was offered a job flying for the DNS. Louise worked various jobs until 1983 when she and her daughter Holly operated the STC bus station for approximately 13 years.
When Ted retired in 1993, they moved to Shellbrook and enjoyed their retirement until Teddy’s passing in early 2004.
Louise married Larry LaPlante in late 2005 and moved to Big River for a few years. They moved back to Shellbrook where they enjoyed visiting and playing a lot of cards. Larry LaPlante passed away in December 2019. Louise remained living in Shellbrook enjoying her time with friends and family until her passing on May 12, 2023.
Louise will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cindy Jonasson of Martensville, SK, and her children, Tianna, Tara, and Justin; Holly (Dave) McPhee of Leduc, AB, and their children, Christopher (Josi), Chelsea (Katelyn); Penny of Victoria, B.C and her children, Matthew (Dominik), Chad (Anna); Bonnie (Michel) Mailloux of Victoria, B.C, and their children, Erica (Cody), Jena; her great great grandchildren, Dexter, Korbyn, Kacen, Avianna, Maddyx, Malcolm, Mabel, Franklin, Caleb, Aubrey, Rylee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews & other relatives.
Louise was predeceased by, her first husband, Ted Viden in 2004; her second husband, Larry LaPlante in 2019; her brothers, Raymond, Allan, and Arthur Olson; her parents, Audrey and Gilbert Olson; and her son-in-law, Rodney Jonasson.
There was a Memorial Service held for Louise on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from the Shellbrook Community Hall with Delores Beaulac officiating. A time of refreshments and fellowship followed the service and Louise was laid to rest in the Debden Cemetery.
