It is with sadness that the family of Louis Wilfred Marcotte announce his passing on August 14, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
Louis Wilfred Marcotte was born April 4, 1928 on the farm at Prud’homme, Saskatchewan. He was the third child of Emile and Leonie (Pinard) Marcotte. Louis was raised with his six siblings, and stayed on the family farm until his marriage. The family remained at Prud’homme until he was 6 years old then moved to Crystal Springs where they farmed until 1951. Louis spent 2 winters working in the bush camps in Northern Ontario with many of his cousins. He often talked about riding the train with 12 of his cousins! In 1951, he followed his brothers Alain and Oscar to Edmonton where he was employed for the winter, but soon discovered that he was a Saskatchewan boy through and through, so he came back and never left again. In the fall 1952, he met the love of his life, Helene Goddue, and decided that very day, that he would spend his life with her. He told this story many times! They were married on April 21, 1953 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Louis and Helene were blessed with 9 children who were born every year between 1954 and 1965. Muriel, Willy, Diane, Florence, George, Maurice, Therese, Michael and Paul ensured that his next 20 or so years were filled with constant noise, laughter and music, and more than a few trips to the ER. Louis worked at the Purity Dairy, painted professionally for Daschuk Homes, and spent his final 17 years of his career at Sask Tel. He retired in 1991 and was able to spend many years taking care of his immaculate yard and flower gardens. He was always good with his hands and tools and kept his home in perfect repair. Both he and Helene were active members of the Sasktel Pioneers, volunteering much of their time. Dad and mom were devout members of St. Michael Parish for all the years of their marriage. Their favorite form of entertainment was dancing. They were members of the Dixie Chains Square Dance Club for 25 years, and enjoyed Round Dancing as well.
Louis is survived by his loving wife Helene; his nine children and their spouses, Muriel (Clem), Willy (Cindy), Diane, Florence (Bob), George, Maurice (Loretta), Therese (Barry), Michael (Denise), Paul (Stephanie); 34 grandchildren and their spouses; and 32 great grandchildren; as well as many step and foster grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers Alain (Laurie) and Albert (Wendy) Marcotte; sister-in-law, Marguerite Marcotte; and many, many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Louis is predeceased by his parents, Emile and Leonie Marcotte; Helene’s parents, Arphire and Albertine Goddue; his siblings, Esther (Arthur) Turcotte, Aline (Damien) Gignac, Oscar (Mildred) Marcotte, Antonio Marcotte, and 2 siblings as very young children; his in-laws, Albert (Zenia) Goddue and Marcel (Pat) Goddue. He is also predeceased by his daughter-in-law Kathy Marcotte, grandson Tony Marcotte, and twin great-grand daughters Grace and Haven Gerow. We know that he will be cuddling them, and they will enjoy that special smile and those sparkling blue eyes of their Pepere.
Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 pm on Tuesday August 21, 2018. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Both services will be held at St. Michael Parish, 1505 13 Street West, Prince Albert.
