Louis Jouan

JOUAN, Louis A. (age 80), passed away peacefully on the morning of Feb 6, with his wife, Rose and son Arnold by his side. Born Oct 21, 1934 in Alan, Sask. He grew up on the family farm near Alan, Sk., before moving with his parents at the age of 10 to Campbell River, BC. The family owned a sawmill operation and Louis took various jobs in the logging and mining industries. He met Rose, the love of his life at the local German Dance Club and were married July 25, 1961. Louis and Rose along with their new born son, Gilbert Jr., moved to Holbein in the spring of 1964 along with his brother, Gilbert and parents. Louis worked at Dept. of Highways until 1970 as their Dispatch Operator as well working on the farm south of Shellbrook. The brothers were responsible for bringing the first Round Balers (Vermeer) to the northern part of Saskatchewan. Louis continued to operate his implement business while running their cattle farm after his brother moved to Merchant Grove. He sold the farm in 1976 and moved into Shellbrook while he built their acreage just east of Holbein where they lived until the fall of 2012 before moving to their present home in Prince Albert. Louis continued to sell round balers (McKee) and short-line equipment up until the mid ’80s. He acquired his land assessment designation, along with his Real Estate and Brokerage licenses, before taking a contract position with the provincial government (SIAP) as an Agricultural Advisor, managing various agricultural programs on First Nation Reservations in the Spiritwood, Shellbrook and Prince Albert areas. He retired in 2002 as an Agricultural Land Buying Consultant for the Federal Gov’t. He spent his retired years, working around his acreage and enjoying many card games with friends and neighbors as well visiting with his grand-kids. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie (of 53 years), and two sons; Gilbert (Linda) of St. Albert and Arnold of Prince Albert, along with his brother Gilbert (Donna) of Shellbrook. He has 4 grandchildren; Bryce, Chantal, Nicole and Christopher along with niece and nephew, Sheri (Don) Lennox and Trevor (Sherry) Jouan. Louis was predeceased by her mother and father, Claude and Anne Jouan. A Celebration of Louis’ Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at The Prince Albert Wildlife Federation Hall.
