November 2, 1949 – February 1, 2012
With family at his side, it is with great sadness that we say farewell to our beloved husband, hero, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, grandfather, uncle and friend Lorne after a brave battle with rejection from his organ transplant in May, 2007. Numerous trips in and out of the hospital over the last five years were faced and challenged head on with his wife of 17 years, Sharon and his family, never giving up hope that a full recovery would lead to a normal life. Born in Duck Lake, SK, Lorne spent his formative years in Prince Albert, SK. He spent 30 years working for the Prince Albert Pulp and Paper Company, later known as Weyerheauser Canada where he finished his days and enjoyed an early retirement as the mill was closed down. Lorne spent many years volunteering his time to various organizations and to the development of numerous athletes involved in minor softball and minor hockey. He was also involved with the Pineland and downtown Lions clubs, following in his father's footsteps. He spent many years enjoying his time at the lake, he loved nothing more than getting in the boat and taking his time to get across to the lake and spending an afternoon fishing, getting back to the camp site to tell tales of the one that got away. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Sharon (nee Duvall); son Aubrey (Teresa and children); daughter Robyn Keays (Robert and children); sister Sharon Wood (Guy and sons); brother Kurt (Debbie and sons); step sons Greg (Kristine and children) and Derek; step daughters Sheri (Stan and children) and Lindsey (Gordy and children); numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Paul and Rose Ashby; brother Emile; sister Audrey; his grandparents George and Irene Ashby; uncle Jack Ashby and auntie Grace Kowal; uncle Leo and auntie Corliss Ashby. Thanks largely in part to the Organ donor program in Canada, we the family, are eternally grateful to the donor family who have provided us a grandfather, friend, dad, and husband for another 5 years of life that we will never forget. Without your selfless gift, we would not have had the time we did with Lorne. A very special thank you to the team of doctors who effortlessly devoted their time and energy to ensure Lorne had a quality of life that was leaps and bounds above what was expected. To Dr. Fenton, Dr. Lien, Dr. Weinkauf, Royal University Hospital ICU Doctors and Nurses, and all practitioners who helped with the care of Lorne….we will be eternally thankful. Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2012 with Sister Reneé Buillard officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 with Celebrant Reverend Father Maurice Fiolleau Both services will be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 – 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Association of Transplantation, 774 Echo Drive, Ottawa, ON K1S 5N8. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, Lorne Adams, Funeral Director.
