Lloyd John Roy Scragg was born at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on the 18th of October,1952 to parents John and Shirley Scragg.  He grew up on the family farm in Claytonville with his parents and Grandma Scragg in the same yard, and his maternal grandparents, William and Annie Spademan just up the road with his nine aunts and uncles.  On April 17, 1954, he became the older brother to his newborn sister, Esther Rose Ann.  Almost 5 years later, on February 1,1959, his baby sister, Irene Heather was born.  Then on January 21,1961, a brother, Alan William Gordon was born.  Growing up he was always called “Roy” and the story was that his mother made an error as he was supposed to be named Roy John Lloyd.  He attended Claytonville School along with his sister Esther, until its closure in 1963. Then it was off to David Central School and Meath Park High School.  On April 5, 1971, when Roy was in grade 12, a new baby brother, Kevin Sandy Albert was born.  After high school Roy moved to Saskatoon to enroll in a cooking course at Sask Tech.  He would hitchhike home every weekend until completion of the course and receiving his certificate.  His working career included working in various restaurants and bakeries, as well as, working in the kitchen for Corrections and as a Guard at the Penitentiary in Prince Albert.

Lloyd moved to Shellbrook in the spring of 2024 and in June he moved into the Heritage Place senior housing complex. He was very happy during the time he spent there.  He would often be making cinnamon buns, buns and bread.  He enjoyed making big pots of soup and sharing with the residents of the Heritage Place.  He would cook an Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas meal for the residents who remained at home during those holidays.  Lloyd had a love of plants and a knack of rescuing and bringing them back to life. He was involved in a play with the Shellbrook Theater Group and he was very excited and proud to practise and perform with that group.  He was truly happy living in Shellbrook, and we are grateful for that.  Thanks to his long-time friend Marlene Fellows, for all the assistance she gave him in securing an apartment in Heritage Place and ensuring he had furniture, a tv and dvd player to watch his movies which he thoroughly enjoyed.  Lloyd would say “It’s a good day – sun is shining – birds are singing”

Lloyd was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Elizabeth Scragg and William and Annie Spademan; his parents, John and Shirley Scragg; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Left to celebrate his life are his siblings, Esther (Bruce) Dempster and their family; Irene Scragg; Alan (Lani) Scragg and their family; Kevin (Kerry) Scragg and their family; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; his longtime friend, Marlene Fellows; as well as his friends and neighbors at Heritage Place in Shellbrook; former co-workers, and numerous friends that shared in Lloyd’s life.
