Lloyd Hyggen

Hyggen, Lloyd Meredith- It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Meredith Hyggen of Weldon, Saskatchewan. Lloyd passed away peacefully on March 29, 2012 at Victoria Hospital after 3 days of sudden illness. Lloyd was born December 28, 1927 on the farm north of Weldon, ninth of eleven children to Martin and Laura Hyggen. He led a mischievous youth thoroughly enjoying his life growing up on the farm. He left school after grade eight to work for neighborhood farmers as well as pursuing various endeavors. Farming was definitely his second love. Pat once said, “Everything Lloyd ever did was so he could farm.” He met his first love Pat (née Wall) at a dance at Liberty Hall, 1.5 miles from the farm. Lloyd was a great polka dancer, constantly sweeping his hair back. They were married in 1955. They moved from Kinistino to Weldon to the farm where he lived the next 50 wonderful years. Julie was born in 1958 and Brett in 1961. He mixed-farmed, milking up to 13 of the hardest milking cows ever (which explained why his fingers could never touch only one piano key at a time). He was known for his great sense of humor. Even in his last hours, he was still entertaining his family and friends with his sharp wit, which helped us all so much with his passing. He spent his whole life doing what he loved; farming, family life, friends, and being a good neighbor. Lloyd is survived by his daughter: Julie (Paul) Heffernan of Calgary, and his son Brett of Weldon. His grandchildren: Stacy (Joe) Newton, Dawn (Charly) Miklaski, and Matthew (Denise) Heffernan. Great-children: Shari, Joshua, and Scott Newton; Claire, James, and William Heffernan; future grandson (to be announced) Miklaski. Lloyd was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Pat (nee Wall); parents Martin & Laura (nee Dahl) Hyggen; his brothers: Harold, Henry, Gordon, Lorne and Albert; his sisters: Mabel, Jennie, Selma, Esther and Bernice. A Funeral service will be held at Weldon Lutheran Church, Weldon, SK on Monday April 2nd at 2:00 P.M with Pastor Sonje Finnestad officiating.
