Lloyd Eytcheson
April 23, 1932 ~ March 7, 2020
Lloyd Lawrence Eytcheson died peacefully on March 7, 2020 at 87 years. He was born at Briarlea, SK on April 23, 1932 to Floyd Raymond Eytcheson and Kathleen Emily (Harris) (Eytcheson) Sanderson. Lloyd was the 3rd child of 6 children.
Lloyd grew up on Briarlea and attended Crutwell School until joining the army at 17. He was a gunner in unit 128 Anti Aircraft Battery, he trained new recruits in Artillery training at Pickton, Ontario until his return home to the family farm. He was an active member of the Army, Navy, Airforce for 50 years.
Lloyd moved to Prince Albert in 1955, starting work at Purity Dairy where with is Persheron Horse, Shorty, he had the West Hill route. He met many long-time customers who became lifelong friends. In 1959 the dairy retired the horses and replaced them with brand new 59 trucks. CHEVS! In the fall of 1966, Lloyd started work driving semis for the Department of Natural Resources delivering building materials near and far in Northern Saskatchewan and his friendships increased. In 1974, Lloyd joined Sears Canada Inc to be closer to home. He worked warehouse, shipping and receiving until his retirement at 56 years old. Lloyd was a hard worker, always with much pride in friendliness and his best customer service throughout his life.
Shortly after moving to Prince Albert, Lloyd met his sweetheart, Florence Ellen McDonald, who he married on February 2, 1957 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. The young couple quickly began their family with Bev born in 1957, Ron born in 1958 and Susan in 1962. Lloyd and Florence celebrated 63 years of marriage in February 2020, having been long term residents of Prince Albert. It made mom and dad sad to have to sell the family home in 2017, with dad living in long term care at Pineview and mom living at Riverbreeze in Prince Albert. Mom was with him many days for visits while they endured these years apart, always their love and devotion to each other, strong and unwavering.
In earlier years, Lloyd and Florence volunteered with the Sask Mental Health Foundation, fundraising for 19 years. He often participated in the Molson beard growing contest, proudly sporting the award winning full bush beard.
He was an avid hunter, enjoying family vacations to Waskesiu and camping. Many happy hours were spent fishing, in his little boat, ROY.G.BIV, named so by his grandchildren for the colors of the rainbow. The companionship of his son Ronald Floyd was very special and treasured and Ron’s untimely passing in 2008 was a huge loss and heartache to Lloyd and Florence. In later years, his lawn and garden and the upkeep of the family home were priority for him and the weeding and harvest bring treasured memories for many of the grandchildren who spent summers with dad in the garden. He was a great cook and after his retirement mom had to give in to sharing her kitchen! He loved going for drives, spotting wildlife and birds, ducks and crocuses and the beauty and bounty of nature.
Lloyd was very active at St. Michael Parish, often greeting, taking up collection and helping in anyway possible. He was gifted with a wonderful voice for gospel readings and sang the hymns beautifully.
He had a great sense of humour, could be a bit of a tease and had pet names for some of the grandkids, “George”, “Scamp”, “Buckshot”. His love of family surpassed all others, especially his wife Florence and gave him much joy. More recently, he felt the presence of a little dog, though not visible to others, Napoleon gave him comfort and companionship.
