We are sad to announce the passing of our Mom and Grandma, Marilyn Linda Stene, on June 6, 2023, at the age of 74, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mom was born October 11, 1948 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm east of Shellbrook and attended school at Parkview and then in Shellbrook. After high school she attended Marvel Beauty School in Saskatoon. Upon graduation she moved to Prince Albert where she lived until her passing.
Mom worked as a hairdresser until her sons came along. After that, she stayed at home to raise us. She re-entered the workforce after we graduated. She started at Eatons and worked there until it closed. She then worked at the CO-OP and ended her working career at Crescent Heights Pharmacy. In her retirement, she was very involved with the Sherwood Place condo association where she lived.
Mom enjoyed travelling. She got to experience an Alaskan cruise, Hawaii, Mexico and many trips out to British Columbia to see family. Mom also enjoyed days spent at Emma Lake and at Cozy Creek Campground. Any trip or any day was not complete without pictures. Whether it be what you ate, what you saw or what you did Mom needed a picture of it!
Family and friends were very important to Mom. She kept in touch with extended family and always made herself available to family nearby. She loved when everyone got together whether it be large gatherings in Shellbrook or just her kids and grandkids getting together. She was always there for a friend in need, a game of cards or just coffee and a visit. The light of her life were her three grandkids, she was so proud of all of them.
Mom leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Todd (Maxine) and their family, Karli (Kyle), Braden (Paige); and Tyler and his son Bodie; as well as her siblings, Elaine Perkins, and Wayne (Sheana) Stene and their families. Mom was predeceased by her parents Melvin and Vera Stene.
A special thank you to all the staff on the Palliative Care Team at the Victoria Union Hospital for the care Mom received. Thank you to Dr. Bree Ardell, Dr. Alanna Surkan, Dr. Kundapur, Dr. Renee Kennedy and all the staff at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre for helping and caring for Mom.

IT TAKES A MOTHER
It takes a mother’s love
To make a house a home
A place to be remembered
No matter where we roam
It takes a mother’s patience
To bring a child up right
And her courage and her cheerfulness
To make a dark day bright.
It takes a mother’s wisdom
To recognize our needs
And to give us reassurance
By her loving words and deeds.
And that is why, in all this world,
There could not be another
Who could fulfill God’s purpose
As completely as a mother
