LILLIAN THERESE ADELE MCKINNEY
December 10, 1933 ~ July 6, 2020
Lillian Anderson McKinney passed away peacefully at her residence of Pineview Terrace in Prince Albert on July 6th, 2020 at the age of 86. Lin was born December 10th, 1933 at the Yorkton Cottage Hospital. She was born to Carl and Victoria Anderson and was the youngest of their eight children. The eight were close and later on became known as “The Titans.” In a family of six boys and two girls, she was especially close with her sister, Bernice. When Bernie met Lloyd, the three formed such a strong friendship that kept them side by side for many years. She spent her childhood years growing up on the family farm on 12-26-6 and attended the Phone Hill School. She then moved to Prince Albert for Grade 12 and went on to attend the Covenant Bible College. In 1953 she moved to Moose Jaw to complete her Teaching Certificate. A year later, she returned to Yorkton where she taught in the district for many years until meeting Gerald McKinney, while on a trip to BC. The two were married on December 29th, 1964 and raised three children in Prince Albert, Kathryn, Colin and Rodney. While teaching, Lin earned her Bachelors of Education through the U of S in 1986. She enjoyed 40 years as a school teacher, first at Kinsmen School then King George Community School, where she retired in 1994. Lin was always an active member of the community. She involved herself with many groups including The Scandinavian Club, After 5 Club, The Teachers Association and The Music Festival. She spent many years as part of The Lion/Lioness Club and enjoyed her time singing with The Watsonairs. Lin enjoyed many interests over the years, reading, gardening, music and playing the piano to name a few. She spent many hours compiling family albums and creating cherished keepsakes. She was “fiercely Canadian” and “addicted to The Prairies” as she would say. She had a great love for the family homestead, The Farm on 12-26-6 and thoroughly enjoyed her summers there, surrounded by family.
Lin was predeceased by her son, Colin; her former husband, Gerry; her father, Carl and her mother, Victoria; her brother’s, Ronald, Lionel, Wendell, Thorild, Russell and Rodney; her sister, Bernice; brothers-in-law, Lloyd, Neil and Stewart; sisters-in-law, Georgina, Stephanie, Mary and Mildred, along with niece and nephews, Wendy, Roger, Murray, David, J.J and Randy.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Muriel, Bernice (Birdie), Shirley and Cathy; brother-in-law, Dennis. She maintained a special relationship with in-laws, Neil and Marilyn Hoyland. Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Kathryn Mary and Rodney Erin; her three grandchildren, Rachel (Aaron) Hill, Taylor Padget and Siobhan McKinney; her one great granddaughter, Reese Lillian Hill. She had a special place in her heart for her many dear nieces and nephews. Lin’s greatest treasure was her family. She loved us all, and we will always love her.
A private family service will be held. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
