Lester Dubray passed away peacefully at home with family at his side on March 20, 2014 at the age of 74. His memory will be cherished by wife Edna, son Murray, daughter Rebecca (Craig), brothers Arnold (Ruth) and Howard (Janice), sister-in-law Norma, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Pearl and her husband Orville, brother Bill, sister-in-law Genevra, sister Ruby and two infant brothers. Lester began his life in Hagen, Saskatchewan in 1939 on the family farm. Stories of his youthful escapades with Bill on the waterfront of New Westminster in the 1940’s demonstrated his ingenuity and creativity from the start – including interactions with Chinese grocers, fishermen and selling magazines in high end hotels without authorization at the tender age of seven. Upon the family’s return to Saskatchewan, he attended Harmony elementary school and Hagen high school, then worked in various construction positions before earning his Journeyman in Carpentry at BCIT in 1964. He moved to Ottawa in 1970, at which time he married Edna and achieved a Diploma with Distinction in Construction Technology at Algonquin College. Moving back to Saskatchewan in 1976, he worked for the Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation until his retirement in 2000. Lester was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2000 and faced the challenges of deteriorating health with striking degrees of determination, grace, and dignity. Endlessly resourceful, he made innumerable useful inventions including converting his scooter into a riding snowplow, a rotating table to keep items within easy reach, washable adjustable neck support, and converting an old bicycle to a stationary gym cycle. Despite failing coordination, he was able to find ways to continue to actively pursue his passions, including curling, golf, music, woodworking and becoming an accomplished tailor. A gifted woodworker, his handmade creations are treasured by friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Society Saskatchewan. A family service will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, (306) 244-5577.
