It is with huge sadness that we announce the death of Les Keir, who passed from this life August 29, 2013 at the age of 64. Les was born on August 8th, 1949 to Gordon and Isabel Keir in Prince Albert. He grew up in Paddockwood, SK and had many good friends there that he spoke of fondly over the years. He graduated high school in 1967 and soon after, he began travelling for Grocer and Glass in Prince Albert. He then went on to work for Goodyear in Saskatoon in the early 1970's. Les met his wife Valerie Wenzel in 1974 and they were married in 1975. Their daughter Gwen was born in 1977 and son Dwayne was born in 1979. 1977 was a big year of changes as Les took his experience working for Goodyear and bought a tire shop in Tisdale. Les owned and successfully operated Keir Tire for 10 years until 1987 when he sold the shop and made another career shift to the insurance buisness and bought into Northland Agencies in Tisdale. Les thoroughly enjoyed the insurance buisness and all of the changes it went through over the years. He retired in 2010, but still enjoyed going to work the odd day here and there either in Tisdale or Star City. Les's favorite place to spend time was at Candle Lake. He built his cabin there in 1971 and over 40 years later, it remained as his favorite spot to spend time. Many wonderful summer memories were made there with friends and family from far and wide. Les was and avid fisherman. It was his favorite thing to do! Ice fishing, fishing in the boat or even from shore, it never mattered to him. He loved it all. He loved to fish with all his friends and family. He loved to go on fishing/snowmobiling trips with many of his friends. Les was a strong believer of community involvement. He was a very active Kinsmen and K-40 member in Tisdale and held all offices in both organizations. He spent time on the NewSask board in Tisdale and was always involved in minor hockey and ringette as well as minor ball when Gwen and Dwayne were young. Les and Val have always been very active in the Christ Lutheran church in Tisdale. Les spent 18 years on church council, 15 of them as chairperson. Les also enjoyed curling. He was an active curler in his younger days and became active again in recent years. Les was a very special friend to many, in many parts of the country. He will be missed by all. Les leaves to mourn; his wife of 38 years, Val, mother Isabel Keir, daughter Gwen (Brad) Osborne and grandsons Carter and Davis, son Dwayne (Michelle) and grandson Egan, one brother Don (Marie) Keir, sister Lynn (Don) Toporowski, brother and sister in laws Ron and Jean Wenzel, Gary and Darlene Wenzel, sister in law Diane Drescher, brother in law Myron Wenzel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Les will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in John Barron Auditorium, Tisdale RecPlex, Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Memorial donations can be made to Christ Lutheran Church memorial fund or the Tisdale Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of your choice. Barron’s Funeral Chapel is honored to serve the family.
