Leonard, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away on September 10, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He returned home to the Lord, where he is reunited with his daughters, Nicole and Denae.
He was born on September 23, 1942, in Weirdale, SK, and was raised on the family farm in the Foxford area, along with his four sisters and three brothers. Because of the many jobs on the farm, his hard work ethic evolved from humble beginnings. One of his first jobs was for a paving company (earning $1.10 per hour). He then worked for Waskesiu Holdings and Sask Pulp. Leonard acquired his Journeyman ticket in 1972 as a heavy-duty mechanic, all the while still farming.
Leonard married Yvonne Rapin in 1968. Together living on the family farm, they raised seven daughters: Nicole, Arlene, Vanessa, Krista, Lara, Cheryl, and Denae. Leonard was a wonderful and loving husband and was very proud of his precious daughters. Tragedy struck the family in 1987, when they lost Nicole in a vehicle accident, and once again when the family lost Denae in 2018 to cancer.
He was a generous man, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. Leonard was a ‘Mr. Fix-It’; whether it was mechanical, welding, carpentry, or inventing a new way of doing things, he was more than happy to fix anything or research how to.
Leonard retired from farming and began working for Whitford Construction in various areas of the province, a job he loved dearly. At this time, he also started to do truck and trailer safeties for SGI.
Leonard had a deep faith in God; he served on Parish Council and many Diocesan committees. He also gave back to his community by serving on the Credit Union board and North-East Health Region.
Left to mourn Leonard is his wife of 57 years, Yvonne; his daughters, Arlene (Doug Drader) – children Joshua & Amy; Vanessa (Danny Corriveau) – children, Tanner (Sarah), and their son Finn, Taylor (Andy Hemsworth), and their son Max; Krista (Brent Wolkosky); Lara – children Ryder and Zya; Cheryl, and son-in-law Mark Lawrence. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Helen Beskorwayne, Elizabeth Korol, Olga (Roger) Godin, and Lena (Merv) Wourms; brother, Tony; brothers-in-law, George Rapin, Joe (Janet) Rapin, Stewart Elliott; and sister-in-law, Therese Courchesne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his daughters, Nicole and Denae, Leonard was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Marfa; his parents-in-law, Albert and Florence Rapin; his brothers, Alex and Joe; his brothers-in-law, Paul, Stanley, Roland, and Leo; and his sisters-in-law, Ruby, Elsie, Louise, Denise and Amy.
He will be remembered as a faithful and loving husband, a proud father, doting grandfather and great-grandfather, as well as a cherished brother and uncle. He was a respected friend, neighbour, and member of the community. Leonard will be missed by all who knew him.
We are thankful to all who assisted Leonard with his journey over the past year and a half: Dr. Dale Ardell, the Victoria Union Hospital, Saskatoon Cancer Clinic, and Prince Albert Home Care staff. Most importantly, deep gratitude and appreciation go to the amazing staff at the Rose Garden Hospice.
Prayer Vigil will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 7:00 PM at St. James Parish, Albertville, SK.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, located 260 25 St. E. Prince Albert, SK. The funeral service has been recorded. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed at the following link: https://youtu.be/q1T-KwIjiC8.
