Leonard (Len) Mantyka
On Thursday January 23rd, 2025 our Father, and Grandfather, Leonard (Len) Mantyka left this earth to be reunited with the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, our Mother Dianna Lynn Thomson who left us in 2019. Meeting him at the gates will be Cappy, Caprice and Mischief, his mother and father Anne and Stephan Mantyka, and his sister Donna Lawrence. The people that will feel his absence the most will be his Eldest Daughter Heather Vallee (Darren) and her children, Nathan, Brandon and Andrew, his Youngest Daughter Janice Mantyka and her children William, Jake(Maggie) and Sophia. He was extremely proud of each of his grandchildren having special relationships with each of them in their own way, and loved them completely. Being a Grandpa was his biggest source of pride. Our parents were married in 1968 in Saskatoon in a small private civil ceremony, and welcomed their first daughter in 1969 and then their second daughter in 1972. In dads younger years he was an avid basketball player playing on the Mount Royal Mustangs team, then after moving to Prince Albert he played a men’s league, the “Cagers”. He had height on his side and made good use of it. We moved to PA in the mid 70’s where he found employment at Modern Home Furniture, where we got the very first available Microwave Oven and Beta Max. Next would be Western Grocers until they shut their doors permanently. He started as delivery and moved to sales where he made many life long friends that we know he cherished and spoke fondly of frequently. All the way from Prince Albert to Stanley Mission taking his fishing gear so to throw his line in the water along the way, stopping off at Robertson Trading post in La Ronge and Christopher Lake for coffee and visits. The family went on many vacations to BC throughout the years and then had a permanent site and camper at Sunset Bay where we spent most of our summers. Life threw our family some curve balls along the way that no one could expect, and it left our dad disabled and unable to remain in the workforce any longer. He took up wood working and built many beautiful projects. Spent many hours working in his shop. His disability became too much for our mom to take care of so we made the hardest decision of our lives, and had him placed into long term care at Pineview Terrace in 2017, where he remained until his passing. My sister and I will be forever grateful for the friends that remained in contact with him throughout the years. Les, there are no words that can express our profound gratitude we have for you and everything you did for our dad over the years, from the early years to his last breath. Mike for bringing dad KFC and spending time with him when you could. Uncle Ernie, for delivering his shopping list when he needed his “beer” and clam, and Wayne for the visits you had with him. Everyone who was in his life was special to him and your loyalty and compassion will never be forgotten. We will be having a small private family graveside service at a later date.
