Lemmer Audean Phillips, known as Audean to all, was born in Story, Arkansas, on April 6th,
1939, to Abraham Frank Phillips and Lemmer Bell.
Audean was born into a large family, her being the youngest of eleven children. Audean
attended elementary school in Story, Arkansas, and high school in Mt. Ida, Arkansas, graduating
as the class valedictorian. During her high school years, she spent her summers working in the
cotton fields in California while visiting her brother Olive.
Audean worked in a glove factory for a short time following graduation, before moving to
Stockton, California to help her brother Olive and his wife Oma prepare for the arrival of their
baby. In a very unexpected turn of events, young Audean ended up delivering the baby who
was appropriately named, Rehna Audean.
After her adventures at Olive’s, Audean moved over to San Jose to live with her brother Bill and
began working at the Bank of America. Audean purchased her first vehicle, a 1956 turquoise
and cream four-door Chevrolet. Audean had a job change and began working at Hewlett-Packard,
moving to live with her brother Royal. Eventually she moved to live with her sister Christeen,
where she remained until she was married.
Audean met the love of her life, a Navy-man named Duncan King “Gib” Gibson. After a few
months of courtship, which included drives in the turquoise Chevrolet, they were engaged and
then wed on November 28th, 1959. Audean’s eldest brother Olive walked her down the aisle
and to the start of her new life.
On January 1st, 1961, Gib and Audean welcomed their firstborn, Cindy Suzanne. On October
13th, 1963, their second daughter Stephanie Audean was born, completing their family.
As the years came and went, Audean was known for her gentle heart and continual service to
others. Audean never focused on herself, but kept busy with countless sewing projects, large
bountiful gardens, keeping an immaculate home, and most of all serving her husband, children
and grandchildren so well.
Audean was predeceased by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, her loving husband Duncan
King “Gib” Gibson and great-granddaughter, Rylee Anna Hickerson.
Audean leaves behind a legacy and a family that will greatly miss her. Loving daughters, Cindy
(Bruce) Jedziniak, and Stephanie (Brad) Helm. Her 14 grandchildren, Tamera Shabaga, Christina
Hickerson, Stephen Hickerson, Paul (Selah) Hickerson, Brock Jedziniak, Savannah Jedziniak,
