In loving memory of our dear Lawrence “Lorne” Miles Spencer AKA “Pa”.  Lorne passed away peacefully on Thursday October 3, 2019 surrounded by family at the age of 84.  In true Lorne fashion, he never complained or shed a tear in his final hours.  Instead, he reassured those with him that it was okay, he was ready and off to a better place.

Lorne was born on July 6, 1935 in Prince Albert, SK, where he grew up with his seven siblings.  He had a close relationship with all of his six remaining siblings throughout his entire life.  They shared many great memories over the years, from camping trips and weekends spent at the Murray Point cabin, to taking turns hosting standing-room-only Christmas get togethers.

Lorne was long time mason member and worked as a train conductor for CN for 34 years, retiring in 1990.  As much as he loved his time with CN, his greatest accomplishment in life was raising his three children Kim, Glenda and Darrell with his wife of 60 years, Lavelle.  Lorne was not only an amazing father, but an even more amazing grandfather and great grandfather to his four grandkids and two great grandsons.  Lovingly known as “Pa”, his grandkids could always count on him to be in the crowd at every gymnastics competition, ball game, band concert, graduation, awards ceremony or Christmas concert.  He and Lavelle (“Gam”) travelled far and wide for their grandkids and it never went unnoticed by them, or their friends and teammates.  They were affectionately known as “Gam and Pa” to everyone, not just the grandkids.

Lorne was an avid sports fan, never missing a game.  Roughriders, any curling event, Raiders, Blue Jays and, of course, his Montreal Canadians.  He was so happy in 2018 to be able to attend the Brier in Regina, as well as experience a Rider game at the new Mosaic Stadium.  Lorne grew up playing fastball and was inducted along with his team into the Prince Albert Sports Hall of Fame.  His love of ball never faded and he was a staple at the ball diamonds around Prince Albert.  He and Lavelle would attend all of their granddaughters’ slo pitch games.  The entire team knew Gam and Pa’s van when it pulled up behind the outfield, and you could always expect a classic Pa honk of the horn for a good hit or play.

He was our rock, our hero, our Pa and now he will forever be our angel in the outfield.

Lorne is forever loved and never forgotten by his wife Lavelle; his daughters Kim (Perry) Hulowski and Glenda (Brad) Dahl; his grandchildren Shelby (John) Robinson, Chelsey (Joe) Hulowski, Adam Hulowski and Delaney Dahl; his great grandchildren Liam and Alexander Robinson; his cat Kincaid; his siblings Ken (Carol) Spencer, Merv (Marg) Spencer, Maureen (Ben) Lucas, Olive (Robert) McLeod, Karen (Bob) Cooke, Shirley (Garnet) Brown; and his many nieces and nephews.  Lorne now joins his predeceased mother Jean, his father Miles, his brother Stewart, and his beloved son and sports watching buddy, Darrell.

Lorne’s family would like to thank Dr. Duval, Dr. Lumb, Dr. Gordon Surkan and his nurse Amanda, and the Victoria Hospital ICU unit for their care.  In keeping with Lorne’s wishes, there will not be a public funeral service.  In lieu of flowers, his family encourages donations be made to the Rose Garden Hospice in Prince Albert – PO Box 2092 Prince Albert, SK S6V 5R3, or the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency – 54 11 Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
