1927 – 2014
Lawrence Yungwirth (May 20, 1927 – March 6, 2014) passed away on March 6, 2014 at the Shellbrook Integrated Long-Term Care Facility. Lawrence was fourth of six children born to Frank and Annie (Hauber) Yungwirth in the Cudworth district. After working as a grain buyer in Bremen, Lawrence settled in the Shellbrook area in 1963 where he had a mixed farming operation until 2000. In addition to his love of farming, Lawrence was an avid hunter and trapper. He eventually moved to the Town of Shellbrook where he spent most days driving back out to the country, checking crops, opening the hunting season, and visiting neighbours. He was an active member of the community, serving as a councillor for the R.M. of Leask and a Board member of the Parkland Terrace Foundation. He was also a member of the Shellbrook Elks Club and the Shellbrook Fish and Game League. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and reading, and had recently discovered his passion for art. Lawrence had a very kind heart and quick wit, and was loved by all who knew him.
Lawrence is survived by his four children, Lauron (Janice) Yungwirth, Lois (Rick) Freeman, Russel (Shirley) Yungwirth, and Cindy Yungwirth (Randall Weselake); six grandchildren, Tanya Yungwirth-Hudyma, Tara Crittall, Marlin Swan, Natasha Wouters, Tracy Vermette, and Teri Yungwirth; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dolores Yungwirth and Barbara Poppel, many nieces, nephews and relatives, and his loving family at the Parkland Integrated Long Term Care Facility.
Lawrence was predeceased by; his 1st wife, Marcella Hauer, his 2nd wife, Alvina Brown, his brothers, Frank and Ralph, his sister, Benedicta, his parents, Frank and Annie Yungwirth.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11:00 am in St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in Shellbrook, SK. with Father Tru Le as celebrant. The Urnbearer will be Russel Yungwirth. The Sharing of Memories will be done by Cindy Yungwirth and Lois Freeman. The Crossbearer will be Teri Yungwirth. The Readers will be Tanya Yungwirth-Hudyma and Tracy Vermette. The Intentions will be done by Janice Yungwirth. The gift bearers will be Natasha and Chad Wouters. The Soloist will be Marlin Swan. In lieu of other tributes memorial donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to the “Shellbrook & Districts Health Services Project” for the Long-Term Care Facility.
