It is with great sadness that t he family of Laurent “Cowboy” Richard announce his passing on December 21, 2016 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert at the age of 88 years. Laurent was the second born son of Angelique (nee Pilon) and Antoine. Laurent’s mother passed away when he was eight years old and with his father being in the army, he was sent to live at St. Michael’s Orphanage in Prince Albert. Because he tried to run away twice, he was sent to live on his grandparents’ farm in St. Louis. Instead of attending school, he worked on the farm which began his life long love of horses. Laurent began to support himself at a young age, so he understood the value of hard work and took great pride in all the things he earned. In particular, his immaculately kept Ford vehicles. During a snow storm on December 28, 1957, Laurent married Gertie Caron from Batoche. He already had a home for them to begin their marriage. Dad had various jobs until he worked on the construction site of the Prince Albert Pulp Mill, where he gained full-time employment in the wood-room until his retirement in 1992. Mom and dad enjoyed camping, fishing, playing bingo, and going to the Big Valley Jamboree with family and friends. Laurent’s actions often spoke louder than his words. When Gertie’s health began to decline, Laurent took care of her until she passed away on June 21, 2014. Laurent leaves to mourn his passing his children: Doreen (Rupert) Roy, Reg (Connie) Richard and Karen (Garry) Richard; his grandchildren: Brandon (Shay) Roy, Kristian (Carleigh) Roy, and Brooklynn (Rick) Roy; his two grandsons Ethan and Camdyn Roy, as well as several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial was be celebrated at the St. Louis Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday December 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Ramel Macapala as celebrant. Interment of the Urn will take place at a later date in the St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Laurent may be directed to Movement Disorders Research Saskatchewan 103 University Drive, Saskatoon, SK. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Marc Blondeau of Kushneryk Funeral Service, Wakaw, SK, 306-233-4403.
“If I could write a story
It would be the greatest ever told
Of a kind and loving father
Who had a heart of gold
If I could write a million pages
But still be unable to say, just how
Much I love and miss him
Every single day
I will remember all he taught me
I’m hurt but won’t be sad
Because he’ll send me down the answers
And he’ll always be MY DAD”
