Laurence (Larry) Huet passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2024 at the age of 81, at The Rose Garden Hospice.
Larry was born in Prince Albert to parents Noella and Andre Huet on January 6th, 1943. He grew up in Christopher Lake with eight other siblings. As a boy he had a trap line in the bush by his house. He often supplied his Mom with rabbits for rabbit stew, and made a little money for selling the furs of other critters. With so many kids they all had their chores to do; chopping wood, getting water from the well, picking berries and milking the cow, which he hated. He enjoyed his childhood in Christopher Lake, spending the summers at Bells Beach, fishing and swimming. He attended school in the village, which of course he walked to everyday, in 3 feet of snow, up hill both ways, in 40 below. He made so many friends in his childhood and a lot of their friendships were lifelong.
He quit school at the age of 15 and hitch-hiked to various places in Alberta and B.C. and tried a variety of jobs to survive. When he was 18, he got a job as a brakeman working on the railway out of Jasper, Alberta and stayed there for many years. He just loved travelling on the train through the mountains. He eventually returned to Prince Albert and owned a couple post trucks. He loved driving all over Saskatchewan selling posts to farmers.
In 1976 he married Helen (nee Walker). His proudest moment was when he became a dad to his two children Kimberly and Kelly.
Larry, Helen, and the kids, spent a lot of time at the cabin in Waskesiu. Larry could always be seen sitting on the deck greeting every single person who walked by. He also liked camping at different lakes when we weren’t at the cabin.
Kim married Darcy and they now have 3 boys, Landyn, Tanner, and Aiden. These boys were Larry’s pride and joy. He spent so much time with the boys, taking them on so many adventures.
After Kelly came back from Fort Mac, he bought an acreage outside Prince Albert and Larry enjoyed going there to just walk around and look at everything and putter on different things in the yard.
In the later years, Larry and Helen became caretakers at their condo until they both retired in 2018. They enjoyed meeting many of the residents and made many friends in their complex.
Laurence is survived by wife Helen of 47 years; daughter, Kimberly (Darcy) Vandale; grandchildren, Landyn, Tanner and Aiden; son, Kelly; his brothers, Maurice (Judy) of Grand Prairie, and Bernie (Shirley) of Estevan; sister, Charlotte (Tyronne) of Paradise Hill; sister-in-law, Shirley Carriere of Prince Albert; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his infant son, Kevin; his parents, Noella (nee LaJambe) and Andre Huet; his sister, Carman Douglas; brother, Laurier; sister-in-law, Betty (Barlow); sisters, Stella Radford, Jeanne Podratz; brother, Denis Huet; nieces, Nictima (Nickie) Huet, Lana Holtom; nephews, Jason Huet and Raymond Carriere; several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his mother and father-in-law Doris and George Walker.
