It is with great sadness that the family of Laurence Armand Demarais, ‘Pépère’ announce his passing at the age of 87 years, on February 18, 2024, at the Good Shepherd Villa in Prince Albert, SK.
Laurence was born on November 24, 1936 in North Battleford, SK to Armand & Beatrice Desmarais. He grew up on a farm in Robin Hood, SK, with his mother and father and two brothers.
Laurence married Julliette on September 4, 1961. They raised their own 4 children and adopted 5 children. Laurence was a loving father and grandfather, ‘Pépère’. The also fostered 40 children. He worked as a grain buyer for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for 33 years. Upon retirement in March of 1993, Laurence could usually be seen tending his garden, as well as fishing, hunting, quading, and snowmobiling.
After moving into the Good Shepherd Villa in May of 2019, he could be found tending the flower beds, or walking the riverbank with family and friends, and golfing.
Laurence is lovingly remembered by his children, Darwin (Kathryn) Desmarais, Kim (Heidi) Desmarais, Shannon (Brent) Miller, Richard Desmarais, Dwayne Desmarais, Teena (Orin) Nelson, Quinton Desmarais, Paul Desmarais; his grandchildren Andrew Miller (Scarlett), Kaitlyn Hancheryk (Tyler), Shea Ann Desmarais (Matt), Avery Desmarais, Paige and Gabriel Nelson and Shania Desmarais; great grandchildren Levi, Lewis, Cooper, and Rylee.
Laurence is predeceased by his daughter Roxanne on February 21, 2017, his wife Julliette on September 23, 2019, and his brother Raymond on April 3, 2023.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2024 at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Albertville, SK, with Rev. Fr. Jim Kaptein officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
