It is with deep sadness that the family of Laura Lea Korody announce her passing on March 7, 2025, in Nipawin, SK. Laura was born on October 9, 1970, in Prince Albert, SK, to parents, Alan and Yvette Korody. She attended elementary school in Prince Albert and moved to the family farm in Weirdale in 1982, graduating from Meath Park High School. Laura’s employment journey began at the Meath Park Convenience store, followed by the Prince Albert Group Home Society. She completed her Continuing Care Aide course and started working at Goodwill Manor Nursing Home in Duck Lake. Laura completed her Office Education certificate at SIAST and was employed by Arnot, Heffernan, Blenner-Hassett Law Office and eventually found herself working for Indigenous Services Canada, where she spent the last several years.
At a young age Laura had a love for ball, playing and assisting with coaching the Weirdale Ladies team. She was an avid bowler which continued into adulthood, where she made it to Nationals! She continued to bowl whenever she was able. Laura enjoyed socializing and card playing where her competitive mind made her an equally excellent opponent or partner. She was a savvy shopper and would delight in finding the best sales and using coupons to secure the best deals. As a movie enthusiast, she could be found enjoying her favorite films at the theater, in the camper, or at the drive-in and would often have someone in the trunk to sneak in with her!
Laura had a love for family camping and fishing trips, and many summer beach days were spent enjoying the sun at Candle Lake, playing and floating around the water. Later years would find her making flower baskets that would travel to the lake for summer camping trips. She enjoyed painting ceramics and made many beautiful pieces that she shared as gifts. Laura had the keen ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, and those blessed to know her had an appreciation of her wicked sense of humor.
Laura is survived by her mother, Yvette; her sisters, Tina (Don), and Tobi; her nephew, Mark (Halley); her niece Jessica; and her great-nieces Makayla and Ainsley. She was predeceased by her father, Alan; and her sister, Cindy.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff from the nurses, doctors, dietary, and sanitation services at the Nipawin Hospital and Pineview Lodge Care Home in Nipawin for their professional and compassionate care they provided to Laura during her time in Nipawin. Laura and the family are thankful for everything the staff provided to make Laura feel at home whether it be a special dinner tray for her birthday or just a friendly face saying hello.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 4th Avenue West, Prince Albert. Interment will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Cemetery, Albertville, SK.
